Mediumship and Beyond

Today’s trance mediums leave a lot to be desired.  In my opinion, there is not enough development in this area.  Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

Again, like I have said many times, you must develop these gifts. They do not just happen. You need to be an experienced medium, willing to sit regularly. We do not know it all. No one does.

I have seen so called trance mediums pulling strange faces and speaking in funny voices. This is not trance.  Trance mediums faces are not changed by spirit and the voice certainly is not touched. Trance is not a physical gift. It is just an altered state. We all can learn to train ourselves to go into an altered state which helps the clairvoyance to be clearer and more accurate. This is not a physical gift.

There is not enough knowledge at the average church, and you may need to go further afield in order to investigate other gifts. There are lots of spiritual courses you can attend to widen your knowledge. Your church may be wonderful, but it cannot teach you everything.  You need lots of experience and knowledge before you attempt to use gifts of a higher nature.  You should see more demonstrations and learn all about it.

Physical gifts are more complicated than trance.  Spirit work very close with the medium and ectoplasm is used to give direct voice. Mediums often sit every night in order to develop the link with their spirit guide, enough for higher work. It needs to be a very close relationship. Not one which develops over a short time. You must get to know each other and become as one.

Trance is  simpler to develop than physical mediumship, but you must learn to be true to yourself. A lot of mediums kid themself into thinking that they are in trance when actually they are just being over shadowed. The medium must dedicate themselves  to development in order to use trance correctly.

The proof of trance comes in the philosophy which spirit are trying to bring through. The medium should not falter with their speech as spirit brings the inspiration. The knowledge which comes through is often beyond the mediums knowledge and expeience.  Likewise, if the trance medium is bringing messages of proof, it will be accurate information as it is coming direct from spirit. All the information should be accurate or why bother with trance at all. You amy as well use clairvoyance.

If the medium falters, then it is unlikely that they are in true trance. They may think they are. That is where more experienced mediums and teachers of trance are needed. The medium has to learn the difference between trance and clairvoyance.

Think about this. Why should spirit go to all the trouble of working with you in trance, if the same information can come with clairvoyance? There would be no point. Except for a more theatrical event.

Cards:  When people mention card readings they usually mean Tarot.

Tarot or otherwise,  it makes no difference really.  Although Tarot books usually give the traditional meanings of each card, there is nothing to stop anyone from reading cards psychically or even mediumistically.

Angel cards or playing cards can be used for readings too.  There is such a variety of cards in the stores now, with great use of colour and good illustrations, both in ancient and in modern styles. There are Angel cards and inspirational cards as well.

There are usually one or two novices at my workshops who learn to read psychically by using cards as a focal point. It just seems to work for them. Whatever works to help tune into the Spirit world is good.  However, card reading is frowned upon by the SNU (Spiritualists National Union).

The need to give the meaning for each card separately, is negated by using psychic talents.  I am in no way decrying Tarot readers, as I know there are some genuinely good ones out there, amongst the many who profess to be. There are those who just do it for the money and they have no psychic gifts at all.

The really good Tarot reader uses the cards only and gives a perfect reading. The explanations are usually very good and give you insight into your life at that moment in time. The professional  reader will not use cold reading as a way to get information from you. It is all in the cards for them so there is no reason to cold read. The information which comes from the Tarot is not the same information that a cold reader looks for.

I have been asked if it is spirits who tickle your face when in a spirit circle or church. I gather the person asking has had this experience.

When we sit for spirit, we build up an energy. This energy is what we use to work with spirit. Sometimes this energy can be felt. It may feel like you are being gently tickled. It sometimes feels as though your hair is being lightly touched. It is often described as a cobweb feeling.  This is the energy as gets stronger in order for us to work.

Sometimes though, we ask our spirit guides for proof of who they are. Or we might ask a spirit loved one to let us know it is them, or that they are around us.  The you may feel their response as a soft tickling sensation.

When my grandma comes through she strokes my cheek and when my sister comes around she strokes the other cheek. One of my guides seems to stroke my hair. But I always ask them who it is for proof.

When I sit in the power, the energy builds up so much that I can feel it very strongly. It is intense and brings along other feelings with it.  I know from experience exactly what it is and the difference between the two.power

Try experimenting with the feelings and ask questions of spirit.  If you are new to it all then you can just ask for it to go away. It usually does. If you feel it often, then it may be time for you to develop, or develop more.

There are sadly,  many times when I have sat in a church and heard the speaker tell someone something bad. This is sometimes very serious. None so serious as the speaker telling someone that a loved one is going to die!!

Firstly, no one can tell you that a person is going to die. No one knows except God. When  pur time is up that’s when we go home to spirit. No one knows when this will be.

Please believe me.   Don’t accept it at all. If it happens in a church then complain to the committee. If it is a private reading,  you should warn everyone against visiting the awful person who said it.

Mediums are there to bring upliftment and hope to people. They bring proof of survival from the Spirit World.  They do not come to upset you. They love you. Why would they upset you.

There are a lot of ethics in mediumship. I teach about it in my circles.  Bad behaviour must be stopped and scaring the public is bad behaviour.  Spiritualists must stamp this out.

This is a difficult one. My son used to go to church with me when he was only four.  He would sit quietly and read a comic and drink the orange juice supplied by the church president. Happy memories now!

He didn’t seem to be taking too much notice at that time.  He would also like to sit with us in my home circle. Again he just seemed to enjoy what was going on. Although he wasn’t fond of the meditation as he thought nothing was happening.

But, there came a time when he was eight, when things started to happen. At someone else’s home circle he started giving messages which were truly accurate and very detailed. When I asked where he got his information from, he described to me a little spirit girl whose name and age he knew.

He would sit with us and ask the little girl to bring him a message for someone in the circle.  She did!  Again accurate and insightful. Wow, what a gift he had. Friends we sat with thought it remarkable.

But there came a time, as he got older, when he was being bullied at school. He was afraid these bullies may find out about his gift and bully him more. He sat with us less and less and eventually declined to sit again.  Very sad and what  a waste of a remarkable gift.

My son had experienced people around him. He had me and the other experienced mediums who sat in my circle. We were able to look after him and guide him.  The average child does not have that safety net. Though that does not exclude them from a spiritualist church.

I suggest that if you want to take you child to a spiritualist church, take them to the divine Sunday service. There  they will sing, say prayers and send thoughts out to the sick on the healing list.  They will of course see the medium of the day demonstrating their gift.  But they will not get involved that way.

Leave taking your child to circles and specials until they are teenagers, at the very least.  But of course, if they start giving messages, ask for help and guidance at the church.

When you have been in an awareness and development circle for some time, it may be time for you to move on.  But it is not only time which dictates if you are ready for the advanced circle. It is how far you have developed.  You should not be in too much of a hurry or you will burn out and your gift may leave you.

We do not all develop at the same rate. Some are not mediums they are psychics. Whilst in the awareness circle, it will become apparent if you are mediumsitic.  There is nothing wrong with being a developed psychic. We all have this ability, but some choose to develop it to a high degree. Others do not choose to develop their psychic ability.

The advanced circle is for both mediums and psychics if you are ready for it.  Your tutor or mentor will know if you are ready.  Trust their opinion as they will be the ones who have watched you work and understand your level of development.  They will tell you if you have tried to advance too soon.

If you go into the advanced circle you will find some of it the same, but other things will be different.  Opening up and closing down will always be paramount choose how long you have been in development.  The change will come in the exercises you do and the more intense concentration on giving messages in the circle.

You will be expected to stand up when giving messages, whereas in the awareness circle you probably did not.  You will be shown how to construct your messages and how to put them across.  There will be times when you stand on the platform and work from there.

It is all aimed at making you become a better medium. Better at putting across spirit’s message and better at giving proof of survival. Survival proof is the most important part of a service, and a private reading. You cannot work on a church platform unless you give proof of life after death. Some do but are soon found out.

Private readings will be improved upon. Your tutor will be listening into your one to one readings more than before.  There are ethics involved here. It is most important to put your message across in such a way as to be acceptable to the recipient.

Some phrases and words are not welcome during messages.  Especially, you must not predict. You may only say that the spirit communicator feels that things may improve. Or that answers may come at a particular time.  But only then if the spirit communicator has told you to.  You must not leave the sitter afraid or wondering what is about to happen.

You must never tell anyone that there is a death to come. Or that bad things are about to happen. You must choose your words carefully.  There area lot of  ethics involved when you are a medium.

You must work in love and harmony and bring upliftment to your sitter as well as proof of life after death.

I have been asked this question many times.  It may sound odd but it is a valid question!

At most churches you will find at least one message grabber and everyone who frequents that church will know who they are. They do make themselves stand out from the congregation. They also attend circles and are the same there too.

When a medium gives a message to someone and it is not acknowledged straightaway, the grabber will shout up ‘I can take that’. Thus taking the message.

To the average person this may not seem much. But to those in the know it is very frustrating. The grabbers will try to take messages until they finally get one for themselves.

This is very frustrating for the medium too. The medium is trying to bring proof from a spirit loved one and the grabber spoils the link. It is then difficult for the medium to place the message with the right person. It spoils the link altogether.

Mediums who serve the same churches regularly become aware of the need to go direct to the correct recipient without letting the grabber in. This is no easy task. Sometimes the medium does not know instantly where the message belongs.

Of course, sometimes the medium wants people to speak up if they understand the message. That is fine. But these regular grabbers do interrupt the service and end up alienating the mediums and the committee and congregations.

Did you develop your mediumship by sitting in Awareness & Development circles?  And do you still sit in these circles?  For most the answer will be no. Because many feel that after the development circle, they don’t need it anymore.

How wrong these people are!  There is always more development to do. Always more work to be done to improve yourself and your mediumship. Surely you are not satisfied with just working psychically!

I believe that to become a good medium and to stay a good medium you need constant stimulation and constant development work. The best way to do this is to attend more classes and more workshops.

You cannot learn everything from just one tutor. You need to seek out the opinion of others too. They may have better ways and ideas for you to use.

I have been a medium for approximately 28 years now. I still don’t deem myself to be fully developed. This is not possible. You can always improve and develop further.

There are many excellent tutors out there. I attend workshops all over the country and I don’t regret a single one. Apart from helping me develop more ability in mediumship, they have given me new ways to help my students. new ideas to keep the circles fresh and alive.

If you look on the Internet there are many excellent course, although I would say you should investigate the tutor before booking the course. Do this by asking around for recommendations.

The Arthur Findlay College for Psychic Studies is a great place to start. They run residential courses, have great tutors among them (I would not personally recommend them all though) and can be found easily online.

What really surprises me is that a lot of people develop in the circle and never bother to attend the church divine service, the specials, or the workshops. How do they expect to learn?  There are far too many egos out there. Some people think it is unnecessary, but they are totally wrong.

If you are a platform medium,  then working the open circle can be frustrating.  If you are a novice or a fledgling, you will find them good for practice.  Those of you who only work the open circle, will feel at home there and may not want to move on.

Really, the open circle is meant to be a step on the way to platform mediumship or to giving one to one readings.  You can practice to your hearts content there, provided the group leader allows you to.

The open circle, as with all psychic circles, is only as good as the leader allows it to be.  Sometimes, through lack of understanding,  the circle leader lets good communication fall by the wayside. It is so frustrating when mediums are waiting to get up and work (with a good spirit link), and the group leader spends time asking everyone else first, if they ‘have anything’.  All the while the medium is fast losing the link they had.  I am sure we have all been there.

In an open circle,  the leader usually opens in prayer and then tells the circle that it is their circle, and welcomes them to get up and work, saying the circle is now open.  In a good circle, one by one mediums then get up and give their communication, before sitting down again and making way for the next one.  This way there is continuous communication throughout.

There should be none of the interuptions, where the circle leader is spending  time trying to get blood out of a stone.  Yes, we all have to learn and we all have to start somewhere. But people either want to get up and give communication or they have none to give. What we don’t want to encourage is people getting up and making out they have communication, when actually they do not. This paves the way for cold reading and guess work.

I find there is a lot of psychic, and very little spirit  in some circles. And in lots of cases it is not even psychic. We need to have good mediums running these circles and running them properly and to a good level.   We must raise the bar and with it gain more respect from the public who attend our services.  You never know who is there listening and taking it all in!

Yes, mediums work very hard. They do this to prove to you that your ‘dead’ loved ones live on in the spirit world. Their existence is not over.

It is easy to work as a psychic who just picks up your day to day events which they pull from your aura.  But why would you want to pay for someone to tell you that you just bought new shoes, you just paid a big bill, or you just wall papered your bedroom. This has nothing to do with spirit or the spirit world, or your ‘dead’ relatives. It proves nothing really as this could, and maybe is, guess work.

Surely you know all that you are doing or have just done. Why do you need to be told. It is so easy for psychics and cold readers.

Mediums are about proving life after death to you and they will work hard to do this. It is our purpose in life.  Mediums need to move to a different level of consciousness in order to get such proof for you. It is not easy for us and needs lots of practice.

The difference in the message will come with the spirit who brings the communication.  They will prove who they are and what happened in their old life time. They will talk about you and your problems and ailments. They will mention what is going on in your life to prove they are still around you. This is the difference.

In order to develop to a high level, mediums continue to work on themselves by going on  courses and sitting for spirit. Training never stops and only the best teachers are worth sitting with.  It is from them that all the knowledge comes.

If you are a medium, don’t stand still, you have far more to learn. The humble ones know this and the egotistical ones should know.
