It is really important to learn to meditate for development. As you are becoming psychically aware, you need quiet time to become used to the feelings and new senses you are starting to use.

If you are mediumistic, meditation is the way to building up a relationship with your guide or guardian angel.  You need this relationship to blossom so that you can teach each other. The guide needs to understand you and you need to learn the ways of your guide.

It is simple and straightforward to meditate.  Remember NOT to try and make your mind go blank. This is impossible and will only waste your time.  Learn to relax and let go. It comes with practice, believe me.

At first you should sit in the quiet, in a room where you will be undisturbed by either people of telephones.  Put on some gentle music, pipes or something of that nature. Close your eyes and let yourself go with the flow.

Begin by tensing each set of muscles, one by one, and let them go. Start with your head and eyes and work downwards, covering all areas of your body.

When you are fully relaxed, stay a while,  drifting back and forth.  Don’t sit for more than five minutes at first.  You can gradually increase the time with practice.

When you have finished, sit with your eyes closed a little while. Open them slowly and gradually bring all your muscles back to life.

Lets start at the beginning. What is Psychic Development? What is Mediumship?  Simple questions with simple answers. There is nothing complicated in what I believe are natural gifts.

We are all born psychic. We are not all born mediums.  We are at our most psychic when we are children. That is because our adult logic and reasoning has not had chance to spoil it for us.

When we are children we accept things as they are. What we see, hear, feel and are told.  Childhood itself is simple.  We do not complicate things for ourselves whilst our minds are naive. We are accepting. So, to children being psychic is a very natural thing.

As we get older we begin to challenge what we believe and reasoning comes into play. Our elders tell us that we are wrong when we talk about things that don’t conform to the ‘natural’.  So, if we say we can see ‘dead Auntie Nellie’, we are told it is impossible and not to be silly.

You can see how a child can be persuaded to change it’s way of thinking.  And so it goes that by the time a child is grown into an adult it no longer uses the psychic gift it was born with. The child now uses logic and reasoning.  What a pity!

The child must now wait until something, or someone, reawakens the gift and starts to move it along again.

Yes, there is a lot of it about.  Still there are psychics who believe they are mediums and don’t even know the difference. This is beyond belief. They have surely never sat for development with an experienced medium tutor.

Or, an even worse scenario, they have sat but not taken any notice of the teacher, thinking they themselves know better.  And yes, a good teacher can tell which you are using, psychic or mediumship. They know if you are linked to spirit, even when you do not.

I know how it goes. I have seen it all too often. They join a development circle and then decide they are too good for it and already know it all.  The trouble is they then get on the platform and make a mess of it.  They don’t produce the life after death proof which is the medium’s paramount job on the platform.  They cannot, they haven’t got a mediums gift.

Remember, not all those who sit for development are mediumistic. Yes we are all psychic and can develop our psychic ability, but it does not make a medium.  A medium is born with the gift. They may take time to know it, but when they develop it soon shows.

The same goes with trance. Some are convinced they have it, when they do not. They often give themselves away by opening their eyes whilst in a so called trance and having a normal conversation with people. What a crock!  You cannot carry on in trance with your eyes fully open. Once you open your eyes your conscious state alters again. Even if you have been in trance, the act of opening your eyes brings you out of it.

The ones who rely on funny voices and a touch of gurning are the worst, but quite the funniest to watch. (Oh what fools the public think spiritualists are)

I witnessed the great Gordon Higginson in trance on many occasions. Never did he open his eyes whilst in trance. His guides and communicators would change during the sitting but he never opened his eyes. He brought forth many spirit communicators who gave proof of survival. What a true gem to aspire to.

For those of you who feel they are in trance but are still able to function as though you are not, consider this: you may be fooling yourself. Your perception of what trance really is may not be correct.  You may be being overshadowed. This often happens.   You may in fact be deluding yourself.

The problem here is that you will not be deluding others.  They will watch you and see you are not in trance, unless they too know nothing of the subject. And you will be lowered in their esteem. I know of some so called trance mediums who are laughed at behind their backs.  Not nice, but understandable. There is little more amusing to watch, than a bad actor.

Take care,  and research your subject before finding yourself a good tutor.  Only when your tutor is happy with your work will you be ready to show others.

From time to time, it is helpful for developed mediums to sit in a development circle for a couple of weeks.  To take you back to basics.

It is so easy as you progress, to forget a lot of the initial teachings. These teachings are an important part of mediumship.  If you have moved on a lot, you will probably be a bit lacking in s0me areas now.

Remember being told how to  “open up”?   Do you still do that?  More importantly, do you still “close down”?  Do you think you don’t need to anymore?  Maybe you think you know enough and don’t need to bother any more.

But yes, you do need to bother. You need to stay in control. You should also be encouraging novices to open and close properly.  Chances must not be taken. Mediums cannot safely stay open all the time.

Meditation is something people tend to drop once they start to use their mediumship regularly. For some reason it is deemed unnecessary. For me It’s a must forever!  To stop meditation is to stop the unique partnership with your door keeper/guide.

Some of the things you do at the very beginning of the awareness and development circle, may seem like repetition. But I assure you that it is all for your own safety and well being. It is to help you remember.

A medium should always be in control of them self.  This includes whilst being in trance or working on a platform. What better way to practice and keep up to date, than by working in a development or open circle.

I have recently resigned from my church committee.  I still love the church but I need to move on. I feel spirit pulling me in other directions.  It gives me much more time to spread myself a little further.

I will now be able to travel further afield to give my demonstrations of mediumship and to run my popular workshops.  I love to pass on my knowledge and help fledgling mediums to develop. This will never change.

If you run a church and would like to know more about my colour specials and the workshops, please email me at the link on this page.  I do have some spaces in my diary now for 2012.

As always, I am happy to receive emails about any psychic or paranormal subject to share on my blog and website.

Spiritualists are not Christians, but we certainly have nothing against them. In fact we are truly in sympathy with them.  The Christian way of life is on a par with the spiritualists way of life.  We both believe in helping our neighbour and loving one another.  But, there is a big difference between the two religions.

One of them asks you to have blind faith in the belief that life carries on after death. The other tries to prove life after death to you.  Christians blindly believe,  whilst Spiritualists  have the job of proving it to you through their mediumship.

The other difference is about Jesus.  Christians believe that Jesus died for our sins.  Spiritualists believe that each of us has personal responsibility. We answer for all good and bad deeds. We don’t need others to die for our sins.

Spiritualists believe that Jesus was a good man. He was a Healer and brilliant Medium who told his disciples that they too had these gifts.  Spiritualists actually use these gifts. They use them to prove life after death and that these gifts are natural, not sacred.

Christians have lots of trappings in the form of statues, crosses and other things, which adorn their churches and which the congregations worship.

Spiritualists have no such trappings. We don’t need anyone or thing to worship.  No Jesus or Mary statues to idolise. No crosses or crucifixes to take centre stage. We do not need them. Why would we?

We do however, occasionally have an angel or two around. This is because of the guardian angels we believe in.  There may also be the occasional Native American Indian picture or statuette too.  These are not to idolise or worship.  These are liked because Spiritualists have an affinity with Native American Indians, as they hold the same after life beliefs.

You should find no objects of worship on our Spiritualist platforms. There will though, be the Seven Principles. These are principles on which the Spiritualist religion is based. They make simple reading.

Above all, Spiritulaism encompasses all. We accept all comers, all colours and all creeds. Whatever their religion may be.

I am really proud to tell you that this is the 700th article I have posted.  It’s right when people say time flies. It doesn’t seem that long since I started this blog.

I began writing when I realised that most ordinary people, (me included)  want the facts about mediumship, in plain and simple words.  Too often,  those who are gifted, make mediumship and psychic ability sound like theatrics.  They use long winded explanations and make a big deal out of what I find to be very natural.  Mediums should not become showmen.

I have found it very therapeutic to share my knowledge.  I have always thought it most important to share experiences of the spiritual, paranormal and psychic.

I have had many comments to this page,(all of them nice)  as well as  emails directly to me.  These have included those with psychic based problems and those who just want to ask questions and learn. Especially about development.

I am grateful for them all.  The ones I hold most dear, are the ones where I am thanked for sharing my knowledge freely. I have had many of those.  Canada, USA, Hawaii, Australia, Spain, France, Ireland and England, are the far flung places people have contacted me from. I am very privileged.

Some of the posts have led to new members for my development circles too.  May this continue for a long time to come. My thirty years experience as a spiritual medium has come in useful to you, my readers.  The philosophy, often in verse form, has been well received too.

I am always keen to have suggestions about new topics. As always, your emails are very welcome. I always respond to them.

Love, peace and light

I am often asked about flower reading. How it works and who does it.  It is a fascinating subject.

Mediums are usually the people who read flowers.  A flower service at a Spiritualist church consists of the medium taking hold of a flower, placed by someone in the congregation.

The medium holds the flower and begins to talk about it. All the time leaving a suitable channel open for spirit to come through.  Remember, a medium must prove life after death. They do this by giving you information from a spirit.  Information you can verify.

With some mediums, the colour of the flower is important and they will begin by reading the colours. Then, they may examine the flower and look at the foliage, stalk and state.  They glean lots from this examination.  Sometimes the amount of leaves or petals, is taken into consideration.

All in all, the total input of the flower can amount to a message in itself.  But mediums don’t leave it there. They continue with the communication from the spirit world.

Many Spiritualist churches have such services now. They are very popular. Watch out for them in your area.  As always,  your feedback will be welcome.

Our church recently played host to a medium with a very big ego.  Typical of a medium with a big ego, he offended many people in our church.

I was not in church on this occasion.  However, as I was the person who booked him (I am the booking secretary) I do feel a certain responsibility.  What follows is what I was told by the committee, who were in attendance at the service in question.

Apparently he seemed a tad agitated when he arrived. He told them he was very popular and that this was his living.  He didn’t like the fact that the congregation was small, on this occasion.

He objected to the organist, who at 94 does her very best and is an old treasure. He was quite rude about her.

He was also very rude about other mediums, whose names I will not publish here.  He kept saying they were just psychics and not mediums like himself.  We know this to be untrue, as we know some of them very well.

He did not want to do philosophy, even though it was pointed out to him that it was a divine service.  All mediums are expected to give philosophy during the Sunday divine service.

He kept on telling the chair person that he wanted to hurry it all up and get off.  The chair person told me that if any other medium was available to take over, she would have asked him to leave.

He got on with the service, but, according to congregation members, he was very abrupt in his delivery of messages.

What a pity that this medium missed the opportunity to spread love, peace and spirituality.

It is so important for a medium to be humble.  Mediums should always remember not to let their ego get the better of them.  So I urge you, if you are developing mediumship, don’t develop your ego at the same time.
