Mediumship and Beyond

Psychic reading  isn’t easy by any means.  You have to develop your psychic gifts,  and to be a medium is a life long dedication to the development of it.

I have been developing my gifts now for over 30 years.  When I write about psychic gifts it may sound simple, but in practice it is far from simple.

I try to give you an overview of different types of readings, flowers, ribbons, sand, among others.  If you have been developing your psychic ability then these are something you may try.  But if you have not done any development then you have a while to go before you can be an accomplished reader.

Remember though, we all have to start somewhere and the sooner you start your development the sooner you will be able to give readings and help people.

I have had people come to my development groups who have expected to be able to give readings almost straight away.  They then lose interest when they realise they have to put a bit of work and dedication into it.  These are the ones who are not intended to use such gifts. It is not for them and it certainly is not for everyone.

If you have the urge and the time to be dedicated, then you should go for it.  Someone is trying to impress you to go ahead and develop.  That someone is your spirit guide or guardian angel.  They will help you if you are determined to help yourself.

Is a medium always switched on?  Or, does a medium walk round all the time with spirits talking to them or showing themselves.  Do mediums see spirits all the time and is it just like looking at me and you?

Well, if a medium walked around all the time with spirit voices in their head,  picking up all the aches and pains a spirit can pass on to a medium,  they would soon be gaga!

A medium really has to learn very early on in their psychic development,  that they have to tune in and open up, and close down when they have finished their session.  It would be an impossible existence otherwise.  It would be like having crossed wires on a telephone exchange.  Mind boggling.

When a medium is tuned in they see spirits in their head usually.  In a subjective manner.  They  hear in a subjective manner too.  They cannot get mixed up between live humans and spirit people.

It is not quite like Ghost Whisperer where she is constantly interrupted by life like spirits wanting her help.  Although spirits do sometimes need help from a medium.  It is not quite so dramatic. 

Mediums deal with the ethereal world and get their messages in an ethereal way.  That’s what the words beginning with clair… mean really.  Clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsentience.  Seeing, hearing and sensing or feeling and knowing.

We mediums can only help the living if make sure we set time aside for readings and shut down for the rest of the day.  That way we keep spirit happy, our sitters happy and ourselves sane.

As the development circle progresses, you will find people are moving on at differing rates.  Some will move swiftly on and some very slowly.  Others will move along at a steady pace and it is these who will benefit most from the continuing circle.

Each session you will open up and work within the circle. You will be doing a variety of excercises, depending on the teachers preference and experience.

You will find you excel at some exercises and not at others. Very few of us are good at them all.  Aura work should be included, as it is the aura where psychics get the information from.   Some of you will remain psychic,  whilst others will become mediums if they are so gifted.  It is only much later that those of you who are gifted will be able to start working with spirits.

After the exercises, you may do workshop tasks like sand and stone reading to stretch you.  You may even use cards.  These may be angel cards.  Each circle should finish with a closing down exercise and final prayer.

Later on in the course things will become less ordered and more instinctual.  Enjoy it all and do not expect it ever to be over. Development is a life times affair.

The second session of your development circle should see a little bit more action.  You will have learned about opening and closing down your psychic centres and will be chomping at the bit to get working and using your psychic gifts.

You will open up and begin to ‘give off” the things, messages, you pick up whilst tuned in.  The group leader will encourage you all to work by asking you what you have got, or what you are sensing.

The idea is to give what you get, as soon as possible after getting it, so that you may get more.  It is very difficult for the novice to learn how to hold on to messages sensed in this manner.  You will soon get the hang of it though with lots of practice.

You may find that you link into the other sitters quite easily.  You may not always know who the information is for.  This is where your teacher will help and guide you.

At the end of each session of tuning in, the medium will encourage you to give anything you have left, before closing down the session.  Don’t take messages home with you when spirit may have brought you something  to give to another sitter.

Each medium, teacher, will have their own specialities and they will use them in their classes.  For instance, in my classes I deal with colour a lot.  Other teachers may not, but will have their own thing.

I get a lot of queries from readers asking me about the development circle.  In particular they would like to know more about what actually takes place during the circle.

Here I will try to give you an insight.  I will begin at the beginning and work through the events, as the week progresses.  If you have any questions as we go along,  please email me.

At the very first circle, an overview of the development course will tell you what to expect.  You will get to know each other and become relaxed in your environment.  This is important,  as you need to be relaxed in order to benefit from the atmosphere created by the circle.

Your teacher will tell you about them self  so that you get an understanding of them and the experience they bring with them.  You need to feel safe in your teachers hands. 

Prayer and meditation play a part in development and you will learn about it early in your development.  During the first circle you will need to learn the very basics of opening up, tuning in, and closing down. You will learn the reasons for opening up and closing down, as they are very important.

You may find that most of the first session will focus on learning the opening and closing process.  You cannot work properly, or safely,  withought this knowledge. 

This should form the basis of your development, but every medium has their own style and method of teaching.

I firmly believe that all of us have the ability to develop our sixth sense and use our psychic ability. It takes time and effort, but is very rewarding when you have mastered a technique that suits you.  The most important thing here is dedication.  You cannot develop your sixth sense over night.  It does take time but is worth the effort.

Most of us are just aware of the five physical senses and are surprised to find there are others.  Being psychic is a natural gift which seems to have become stifled in most of us as we have ‘evolved’.  Learning to awaken this sense is a natural thing to do.

There are so many unexplained things in this world and they are there for us all to explore.  Why not.  There is plenty of information out there today about the psychic subject, and it is relatively easy to find a group of like mined people.

There are Spiritualist churches all over the world now and there are lots of opportunities to learn how to become psychically aware, and indeed, to practise your new found gift when you are ready for the public domain. You do not have to go to church or take on a new religion. You can go to development groups and classes almost anywhere now. There are also books which aid the seekers of psychic awareness.

If you are not ready to try it for yourself, then you might like to attend a psychic event at a hall or church nearby. There are always plenty on offer, although some are quite pricey. You can also host your very own psychic evening. Email me for more information on this.

It is not difficult to develop your psychic abilities. It needs dedication above all else.  Development often begins before you are even aware of it.

Regular meditation and sitting in a small home circle is enough to begin with. You may even sit with others who have little or no obvious ability, until you need further help and tuition.  There will be a stage in your development where you will need to seek the help of a teacher.  Or at the very least, an experienced medium.

As I mentioned before, going to spiritualist churches helps you to gain the knowledge. Just going along and attending the services and paying attention to what is being said. You will learn a lot this way.  You will find out about all the psychic and spiritual gifts that are developed by mediums.

Gaining knowledge on its own is not enough though.  Meditation will help you get to know your spiritual guide, or guardian angel.  You will need to be able to communicate with the guide,  and learn to work together as a partnership.

Remember that development is a life time journey. It is not achieved over night and  you will always want more.  Try to remain humble. So many mediums soon develop over inflated egos.  This is not a nice quality to have when working with spirit.  Always remember that you cannot give spirit communication without the help of spirit.  You cannot do it alone.  There is no need for ego.

From time to time I run development classes.  Development classes are also held at some Churches.  My advice is to always check on the knowledge of the development circle leader.  You need someone who can help you when you are in trouble or having problems.

How do you determine if you have psychic abilities and if so what they are. It is not easy. 

There are psychic teachers everywhere, offering all sorts of courses and workshops and circles. You can also buy books, CDs and tapes, but there is no ideal for determining their quality. It can be very confusing.

 In my opinion you should use your own common sense and instincts. You should also get some information from those who have already tasted development. Maybe a recommendation of a good teacher too, as that is the most important.

You need a teacher who is selfless and will not be jealous of any student who shows great promise. Believe me, there is a lot of jealousy in the spiritualist and psychic movement. Some are afraid of anyone overshadowing their abilities! I find this incredible and a little sad. 

Psychic senses are not plain gifts, they are natural God given abilities. If a lot underused and under valued, you have these senses, but they may need awakening. And for this you may need help. 

Mediumship is different from psychic, in that you have to develop your psychic abilities in order to communicate with the spirits, but most psychics are psychic and not mediums. I hope this is clear. We are all born psychic but few are born mediums. 

The first step on your journey of development and enlightenment must be COMMITMENT! A commitment to yourself and to spirit as well as to your spiritual teacher.

 If you are unwilling to commit, then leave well alone. It is a long, if wonderful, journey and you need to be committed.

 Keep an open mind always and try not to have preconceptions about any of it along your pathway.

As I have said many times on my blog, we all have the ability to be psychic we just have to learn to recognise it and develop the gift.

Some will recognise it as instinct, some as coincidence.  It really is the sixth sense, as mentioned in the Bruce Willis blockbuster of the same name.

The sixth sense can remain a psychic gift, but in some it can develop into mediumship, which is a greater gift and much more useful for helping people who want life after death proof.

I have developed my own system for development and I shre it with those who ask for help or who come to my workshops and classes for development and awareness.

You may find a good development circle near you.  You can ask at your local spiritualist church to start with.  Asking friends and colleagues to recommend one is always a good thing.

Clairsentience is a gift which is often overlooked when discussing psychic subjects.

As you know there is clairvoyance, the gift of clear seeing, clairaudience, the gift of clear hearing, and clairsentience is the gift of sensing, smelling & feeling.

Clairsentience is often the first one which comes into play when developing mediumship and psychic ability.  It would seem that it is not used to its full potential though, as there is apparently a lack of these readers.

When giving a reading, smells and emotions are usually communicated from spirit, but a lot of mediums don’t seem to pick them up. They need to learn to develop this gift.

The sense of the pain when a loved one was passing over, is often relayed from spirit to help prove who they are.  They also try to make the medium feel the emotions they were going through and may still be if it was a very recent passing.

It takes skill, time, and above all patience, to learn how to get this communication over correctly.  It also has to be treated with kid gloves, as it is so easy to hurt a sitter by being clumsy with the communications.

The medium has to let their own feelings flow whilst allowing the other feeling to be sensed.  Not easy but well worth the extra effort.

Readings can be given with clairsentience alone, but used in conjunction with clairvoyance and clairaudience, it becomes much more of a soul to soul affair.

It may be worth finding out which gifts a medium has before going for a sitting.  Even so, believe it or not, some mediums don’t know which gifts they have!  There is a lot of ignorance out there. This is what my blog is for.
