Altered states of awareness help mediums communicate with spirits and the spirit world.  Mediums work on a different level of consciousness in order to be able to pick up the communications from spirit.

Whilst developing your mediumistic gifts, you learn to attune to a different level and allow a channel for which to let spirit through. It is a very subtle change in the level of consciousness.

Sometimes you may not realise you are doing it. But, if you wish to work in trance or develop any form of physical mediumship, you need to work on altered states.

There is a certain level of consciousness where a medium can allow spirit through yet still keep up a conversation with the sitter fro whom they are reading.

It is a very interesting subject, and there is a  lot to learn about the energies which flow through the medium whilst working with spirit in the altered state. Energies can create orbs, and they can be seen by those who are gifted, or will show up on camera or film.

If you are interested in learning more about this subject, Whitham Road church is having an ‘Altered States Workshop’ in September. There are limited spaces so you have to be quick to buy your £10 ticket.

For further info, you can check the Whitham Road website. There is a link lower down this page. Alternatively you may contact me via the email link on the page.

I truly believe that we do not, and cannot, disturb spirits by communicating with them. The reason is that we cannot summon up spirits. We can only tune in and ask ‘Is there anybody there?’ We cannot make them communicate.

A lot of the older mediums used to give the impression that they could call up any spirit that they wanted to speak to.  Especially if the spirit was that of a famous celebrity.  Some old books by mediums implied very strongly that they regularly communicated with the famous.

This has given the wrong impression of what mediums can and cannot do. We are only human, not supernatural and can only communicate with those who choose to come through.

Spirits tend to come through to communicate via a medium, to a person who is in the same room as the medium.  They come through to bring love and upliftment, as well as proof of life after death. They bring this information for their own loved ones. So, unless your very own loved one is a celebrity, you are unlikely to be able to communicate with one.

There is no reason why Elvis, Princess Diana, Mother Teresa or any other famous person would want to communicate to a total stranger. They have more to do. Their spirit is evolving and talking to you will not help at all.

So you see, you are not disturbing spirits by communicating with them. They will only come if they want to. You cannot make any spirit communicate unless they want to. Spirit will only come if invited  and if they want to communicate with you via a medium or otherwise.

Well, a good medium can read almost anything really.  There are some who prefer to use their gift of clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, in a straight forward manner.  Others like to spread their wings and use various tools as focal points.

Most items hold vibrations which can be read psychically, so therefore objects can easily be read.  There are others, like myself, who work with colour and like to read ribbons and colours.

Mediums who are very tactile like to read stones because they are very nice to hold and some are very colourful too. They give me great inspiration.

Flowers are a joy to read as they are living things full of vibrations and again, colour.  A lot of information can be gleaned from a sitters flowers.

In my humble opinion, the answer is yes. Mediums can read anything and everything!

I have often been asked how I receive the communications that I have from the spirit world.  The spirits use me as a sort of go between.  This is not unlike being a translator between the spirit entity and the person for whom the sitting is being given.

I am clairvoyant, and therefore, I get most of my  messages in picture form. Spirits flash the image of a person, event, or building etc into my head and it is a bit like watching a TV inside my brow.  The images do not stay for long and I would expect that most mediums miss a lot of the information as it comes and goes so quickly, but whilst it lasts it is very clear.

I also hear voices.  This comes fleetingly as though someone is talking in my head, and again I have to be alert so that I do not miss it. Sometimes it comes as more of a thought into my head. It is not like hearing through my ears. That is objective and mine is subjective.

The other sense at work with me is clairsentience. This helps me pick up the feelings and emotions being given to me. I also feel the ‘sense’ of pain, which is often to do with the spirits ailments or the pains felt around the time of passing over to the higher side of life.  It is not the same as enduring the actual pains, thankfully,  but just the sense of it. It might be that I fleetingly get a sense of pain in my chest, if the spirit passed with heart problems. The sense of pain in and around the lungs, or the urge to cough, has an obvious meaning too. Or even the sense of not being able to swallow.

Ultimately, all the pictures, thoughts, words, and emotions, have to be put together as if it were a jigsaw puzzle.  This again is not easy,  but it has to be given  in a way which the sitter will understand.

Sometimes, the spirit may use symbolic signs and this involves using my own knowledge, as it has to be a symbol which I understand, in order to give it to my sitter.

Maybe this explanation will help you understand why it is important that the sitter speaks as little as possible. Apart from yes and no, anything else will interfere with the medium’s flow of information and the collating of it. It a great partnership with the sitter, the medium, the spirit world, and last but not least, the medium’s spirit guide, who helps it all happen.

I often feel quite elated when really good information comes through. I also often feel bewildered whilst trying to keep up with the information.  It is a partnership which has taken over 28 years of hard work. During which time my guide and I have developed a strong bond and a preference for working with colour.  Worth every minute of it in my humble opinion.

Spring is in the air and hopefully the weather will start to show it too.  Spring is a time for  renewal and a time for looking forward too. This is also a time when our church celebrates by having a Spring Psychic Fair.

For those of you who don’t know just what a psychic fair is: it is an event where there are lots of mediums gathering together to give taster readings to church members and the public too.

At the Whitham Road Church in Sheffield on Saturday 2nd April at 11-4pm, the mediums will be using, clairvoyance,  Angel Cards, Tarot Cards,  The Crystal Ball, Ribbons and Colour – for giving readings.  For which there will be a modest fee, as this is a church fund raising event.

There are SNU Spiritual Healers from the churches regular healing group. There will also be taster sessions of Reiki Healing which I know you will find very relaxing and therapeutic. The healers and Reiki ladies are very good and gifted people.

There will also be stalls selling  – New Age Gifts – and Second hand books will be available for sale too. There will of course be refreshments.

This is a very popular event and therefore the church committee has decided to run more of the fairs throughout the year.  There will be lots of committee and mediums on hand to answer all your questions.

If you have problems parking, there is a car park on the opposite side of the road a little higher up from the church. It is only 20p per hour to park there. Do give it a try. We are also on a really good, frequent bus route which services all the major hospitals.

As always you can email me for further info or see the church website. Enjoy!

At Whitham Road, Sheffield, Yorkshire, church tonight, there is an excellent medium giving a special evening of clairvoyance. The mediums name is Ann Luck and she is the president of the ISF – International Spiritualist Federation.

The ISF do work all over the world spreading the Spiritualist word. They work very hard. Although they do not themselves have a church of their own, they do give services at churches and halls throughout the globe.

The service tonight starts at 7.30 and doors will be open at 7pm.  It is only £3 on the door or just £2 if you are a member of the church. If you go along I know you will not be disappointed.

In answer to the above question I wrote: You do not have to be clairvoyant to see auras.  We are all psychic, you can learn how to see the aura, everyone has this potential. Whether you are mediumistic or not.

Just because you can see auras does not necessarily mean you are clairvoyant either, but you may be.  Only developing your psychic gifts will tell you this. And this will take time, dedication and effort on your part.

It is possible that when you first become aware of your own psychic ability, the first thing could be seeing auras.  It could just as well be an awareness of clairsentience, which is the sense of smell, touch and emotions.  We are all different and all develop at a different pace.  Some mediums never learn to see auras. It does not make them any less of a medium.

If you start to see things and see spirits or hear spirits and voices, then you are more than just psychic, you are mediumistic.  But, remember not all mediums can see auras though.  Neither can all mediums see or hear spirits.  Even mediums are not gifted with it all.

There is still the basic fact that we are all psychic and it is up to our own freewill whether we decide to develop our gifts or not.  If we do decide to develop our psychic ability, any mediumistic abilities we have will come to the fore.

A good teacher and good steady progress is what is needed then.  Seek out the best you can and you will develop far better than if you go just anywhere to develop.  And, do not be in too much of a hurry. Slow progress makes for better development. That way you won’t burn out. It will be a lasting gift.

Lots of my posts are about development of our psychic gifts.  If you have a particular need or a particular question then please email me and I will do my best to help you. There is a contact email link on this page.

The film Sixth Sense, starring Bruce Willis and the lovely  Haley Joel Osment, was a great success and no wonder. It was a film of great foresight and the producers raked in lots of money. They dealt with the subject of death and life after death, very sympathetically.

They also dealt with the subject of the sixth sense, clairvoyance, second sight etc very well indeed. Hats off to them.  No one could have done it better.

If you wanted to explain all about mediums you could simply take along your friends to the cinema or rent the video.  You cannot go wrong with this wonderful film.  – Can you tell I like it?

What stands out most is the natural way it as all dealt with. And here is my point.  Your sixth sense is natural! We all have it and it is there for us all to tap into naturally.  All we have to do is choose to develop it.

The sixth sense is not paranormal, it is natural!  It is not about ghosts and ghoulies.  It is about knowing and feeling and forever being aware of our loved ones. What a wonderful gift our maker gave us.

It is never too late to see the film and never too late to develop your sixth sense. At least look into it and find out a bit more about the subject. This is a good place to start. My blog covers most topics of the psychic and spiritual nature. Good luck with your journey of discovery.

This subject puzzles a lot of people.  Some mediums swear they see spirits as clearly as they see you and me but they usually have their eyes closed when they are describing them.

They say that the spirits are solid but they cannot really be as spirits have no material body. It is all down to perception.

Subjective means they ‘see’ it in their head and objective means they see it with their eyes.  You see humans in their material body objectively but you ‘see’ spirit in a subjective way.

When a medium is looking at spirit, invariably they are are looking at them with their physical eyes closed. They use their clairvoyance to see them. It may appear that the spirit is standing beside you but this is only within the mediums clairvoyant vision.

It is not the same as seeing a solid material figure and cannot be. Even though the medium can see it plainly.

If you have seen a medium on a church platform or on a stage, you may have wondered how they can see spirit without closing their eyes.  Conversely, you may have wondered why they have there eyes closed so much.

The same can be said when you go to see a medium for a private consultation.  The medium may keep closing thier eyes. In fact whenever you see a medium working you may wonder which is the right thing to do.

Well, there is no right thing really. It can be a matter of politeness when on a stage or platform, to look at ones audience.  It can also be a safety matter when you consider that it might be easy to fall off the stage or trip over something.

It all comes down to clairvoyance. A clairvoyant medium ‘sees’ spirit.  They will see spirit with and without eyes closed. They do not need to use their physical eyes. It is a spirit guide and medium mind to mind thing.

When you have a private reading the medium may feel more able and relaxed, with their eyes closed.  It may mean that they can hold onto their contact more whilst relaxing into it.

I know when I give private readings, I have my eyes closed part of the time and open the rest. When I really need to concentrate I keep my eyes closed. I am sat down so there is no need to worry about falling. As long as my sitter is happy with it then it is ok.

When I work the platform or stage, I usually keep my eyes open, although there are exceptions.  We are not all the same and do not all work in the same way. Each medium is unique.

Suffice it to say that clairvoyant mediums can see with eyes closed and with eyes open.

Even a clairaudient, who ‘hears’ sometimes closes their eyes when giving readings. It is because it is more relaxing and easier to concentrate.
