Mediumship and Beyond

I have recently resigned from my church committee.  I still love the church but I need to move on. I feel spirit pulling me in other directions.  It gives me much more time to spread myself a little further.

I will now be able to travel further afield to give my demonstrations of mediumship and to run my popular workshops.  I love to pass on my knowledge and help fledgling mediums to develop. This will never change.

Spiritualists are not Christians, but we certainly have nothing against them. In fact we are truly in sympathy with them.  The Christian way of life is on a par with the spiritualists way of life.  We both believe in helping our neighbour and loving one another.  But, there is a big difference between the two religions.

One of them asks you to have blind faith in the belief that life carries on after death. The other tries to prove life after death to you.  Christians blindly believe,  whilst Spiritualists  have the job of proving it to you through their mediumship.

The other difference is about Jesus.  Christians believe that Jesus died for our sins.  Spiritualists believe that each of us has personal responsibility. We answer for all good and bad deeds. We don’t need others to die for our sins.

Spiritualists believe that Jesus was a good man. He was a Healer and brilliant Medium who told his disciples that they too had these gifts.  Spiritualists actually use these gifts. They use them to prove life after death and that these gifts are natural, not sacred.

Christians have lots of trappings in the form of statues, crosses and other things, which adorn their churches and which the congregations worship.

Spiritualists have no such trappings. We don’t need anyone or thing to worship.  No Jesus or Mary statues to idolise. No crosses or crucifixes to take centre stage. We do not need them. Why would we?

We do however, occasionally have an angel or two around. This is because of the guardian angels we believe in.  There may also be the occasional Native American Indian picture or statuette too.  These are not to idolise or worship.  These are liked because Spiritualists have an affinity with Native American Indians, as they hold the same after life beliefs.

You should find no objects of worship on our Spiritualist platforms. There will though, be the Seven Principles. These are principles on which the Spiritualist religion is based. They make simple reading.

Above all, Spiritulaism encompasses all. We accept all comers, all colours and all creeds. Whatever their religion may be.

I am really proud to tell you that this is the 700th article I have posted.  It’s right when people say time flies. It doesn’t seem that long since I started this blog.

I began writing when I realised that most ordinary people, (me included)  want the facts about mediumship, in plain and simple words.  Too often,  those who are gifted, make mediumship and psychic ability sound like theatrics.  They use long winded explanations and make a big deal out of what I find to be very natural.  Mediums should not become showmen.

I have found it very therapeutic to share my knowledge.  I have always thought it most important to share experiences of the spiritual, paranormal and psychic.

I have had many comments to this page,(all of them nice)  as well as  emails directly to me.  These have included those with psychic based problems and those who just want to ask questions and learn. Especially about development.

I am grateful for them all.  The ones I hold most dear, are the ones where I am thanked for sharing my knowledge freely. I have had many of those.  Canada, USA, Hawaii, Australia, Spain, France, Ireland and England, are the far flung places people have contacted me from. I am very privileged.

Some of the posts have led to new members for my development circles too.  May this continue for a long time to come. My thirty years experience as a spiritual medium has come in useful to you, my readers.  The philosophy, often in verse form, has been well received too.

I am always keen to have suggestions about new topics. As always, your emails are very welcome. I always respond to them.

Reiki  is a spiritual practice  developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. The teaching was continued and adapted by various teachers.

It uses a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional bodies.

Through the use of this technique, practitioners believe that they are transferring universal energy (Reiki) in the form of ki through the palms that allows for self-healing and a state of equilibrium.

There are two main branches of Reiki, commonly referred to as Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. The primary difference between branches is that the Western form uses systematic gestures,  rather than relying on an intuitive sense for proper hand patterns. Either are acceptable.

Both branches have a three-tiered hierarchy of degrees, usually named First, Second, and Master/Teacher,  which are associated with different skills and abilities.

There are now many practitioners around. As always find one through recommendation.  If you wish to learn Reiki find a Master who has a good reputation.

My advanced development circle are meeting up with my beginners circle this week.  On Tuesday they are having a fun night.

A fun night with me consists of all different methods of reading for each other.  Colours, angel cards and tarot, stones and ribbons, will all be used.  As the new and the old have not yet met, it means they will be reading for ‘new’ people for a change. This is a big step on the way of development for them all.

This should encourage them to venture forth into the open circles and see exactly what they can do. I am looking forward to that.

I know there are some of the advanced group who wish to develop in other areas too.  This will be exciting for all the group.

Next spring there will be just the one circle for all developers.  There will not be a new one for complete beginners until September 2012.

The sixth sense is a natural phenomena.  It is latent in us all.  It is not difficult to find a way to develop your sixth sense.  There are numerous avenues open to you. You could go it alone or join a group. Whichever you feel most comfortable with.

You do not have to take up Spiritualism to develop your psychic gifts either.  Religious people are not the only ones granted these extra senses.  Your religious beliefs remain your own and can be kept private if that is your wish as no one will ask you about it.

At home, either by yourself or with a small group of like minded people, is a good place to begin.  I have devised my own method of development and if you would like to find out more about it, email me through my web site or add a comment on this page and I will get back to you.

Meditation is a good place to start. Learning to relax helps both the physical body and also to quieten the mind.  My own method uses meditation, but you do not have to be used to meditation in order to learn how to attune yourself to your sixth sense. You can learn to meditate. That is a good place to begin. It is nor difficult. You just need to get the hang of it.  Pracice will soon make perfect.

Remember, we are all psychic but not all of us are mediums.  Anyone can work on developing their psychic ablity, but it does not mean that you will become mediumistic.  I believe that mediums are born with this special gift, although they still need to develop their psychic ability in order to learn to communicate with the spirit world.

This  title may remind you of my feelings on the difference between spirits coming close, and that of the images of a traumatic event trapped in time.

Those of you who read this blog regularly, will know how I feel very strongly that these are indeed two different events.  The ghost replaying the same trauma over and again, draws the attention of the public, who seem to become aware of it at the same time of day or night on each occasion.

You will hear people say things like:  ‘it walks through that wall every night on midnight’!  Or ‘ it rides on a horse across that road at 10pm each night’!  And so forth. These are sightings of ghosts. They are images trapped in time. Not spirits trying to haunt.

When it is spirits, they  draw close to prove that there really is a continuation of the human consciousness and therefore, life after death.  The spirit will not only bring comfort but will bring advice and give a brief history of their earthly existence.  Some more than others of course.

For communication with spirits you usually need a medium. The medium will sit and wait for a spirit to ‘come through’. They cannot call one up.

Communication with a spirit is just that. A communication. You cannot have communication with a ghost. As I have said, it is just an image trapped in time.  Haunted houses should not really scare you or anyone.

Think logically about this subject and you will soon see the difference.

There are many types of psychic reader and many different kinds of people from all walks of life who have become psychic readers. Many of these are professional readers and an even larger number are amateurs.

The aim here is to discuss the various options you have when deciding to become a reader, and also to explain how such readings can be given.

There are ways, once you have developed your psychic ability, of learning how to give all the different types of readings, but you will probably find you excel in one particular area.

Colours: For instance, colours can be read with some knowledge and practice. It takes ribbons and a basic set of meanings for the colour of each one. With practice, you will soon be using your ribbons as a focal point for your concentration, thus allowing your mind to focus on the information which is being channelled through to your consciousness.

Cards: Tarot or otherwise, it matters not. Although Tarot books usually give the traditional meanings of each card, there is nothing to stop anyone from reading cards psychically or even mediumistically.

Angel cards or playing cards can be used too. There is such a variety of cards in the stores now, with great use of colour and good illustrations, both in ancient and in modern styles.

There are usually one or two novices at my workshops who learn to read psychically by using cards as a focal point. It just seems to work for them.  The need to give the meaning for each card separately is negated by using psychic talents. I am in no way decrying Tarot readers, as I know there are some genuinely good ones out there, amongst the many who profess to be.

Feathers: are interesting items to give readings from. The sitter can pick their own feathers by collecting ones they find, or by buying a set for themselves from a craft or toy store.

Alternatively, the reader can have a set, coloured ones are nice, and can give them to the sitter to hold, thus leaving their imprint on them.

Flowers:We must not forget flowers here, as I know they are a great source of pleasure for people and reading them seems quite a natural event.

Again, vibrations can be instilled into the flowers by the person who picked them from the ground. The alternative way to read a flower is to study it and see what you can glean from its shape, size, buds and leaves.

Yes, there are quite a few out there. They do a little bit of psychometry and think they know it all. Worse still, they think they can teach it all too. The shame of it is that we all get a bad name as a result.

As I have said many times, mediums and psychics need to develop for quite a time before they are good enough to give messages and readings to the public. They need to sit in development groups and then practice in the open circles.

Sadly, there are some out there who have sat in a development class for a few weeks and already think they know enough to teach others how to do it.  They cannot. Having enough knowledge to help others develop takes years of self development and study. It cannot be achieved in a short space of time.

The problem is, when someone with little knowledge gives a reading to someone, they can put it across in such a manner as to upset.  Novices tend to assume a lot. This is not their fault, it is just because they need to develop their gift more.

Novices tend to guess at the spirit’s relationship with the sitter. For instance, they may have a young woman to read for. They may gain contact with a man who comes across as protective and caring.  They may assume that this spirit entity is the sitter’s father.  They may well be wrong. It may be the sitter’s husband. There is no reason why a young woman cannot be a widow.

To then carry on such a message saying your father, instead of your husband, can be truly upsetting.  The woman will be looking for proof that she will see her hubby again.  That is why she is having the reading.

So, you see it is not wise to go too quickly into the public ring.   And, it is not wise to consult a reader who does not know or understand yet, what they are doing.

Tread carefully whether you are novice or sitter.  Importantly, make sure anyone you take instruction from knows there business well.
