Maybe you, like myself, didn’t know what to expect when you went to your very first psychic circle.  I was nervous and wanted so much to make the most of it and develop any gifts which I might have.  But no one told me what to expect or what mediums really did! I was so green but very eager.

The reason I began writing this blog, was so that I could explain the ins and outs to people. Explain in simple terms what mediums and psychics are all about.  Also. to explain what really goes on in circles and in Spiritualist churches. If you go armed with some knowledge then you are half way there.

My first foray into a psychic circle was wonderful, but at the same time it was very bewildering.  Mainly because the lovely medium who ran the circle did not teach. Not as such. She always gave a little talk. But when it came to the actual sitting, she did not lead you at all.

Her idea was not to put things into the minds of her students, so as not to pre-empt what they were going to experience or say about it all.  That may seem like a good idea. But I know now that it was certainly not. Though some people do let their mind follow the others and are easily fed.

The medium would open in prayer. Then she gave her little talk. After which she told us we should meditate.  I had never meditated before and hadn’t a clue what to do.  So, I would spend my time trying my hardest to ‘see’ or ‘hear’ spirits talk to me.  I tried so hard,  I would end up with a very bad headache. (I now know the headache was caused by building up the power and not using it.)

I thought that spirits would use an objective voice.  And that I would see spirit objectively. When in actual fact, for most mediums, it is all subjective.

I thought spirit would start up a conversation with me!  I thought they would show themselves to me and hang around long enough for me to take it all in. How wrong I was. There is so much more to it than that. It is hard work at its best and almost impossible at its worst.

After the meditation, the medium would go round the circle, of 25 or more sitters, and ask each of them for a run down of their ‘journey’. What they had experienced during the meditation.

My goodness, what the others didn’t see, hear, or feel, was nobody’s business. I was overwhelmed by it all. But when the medium got to me and asked me what I  had seen, I would answer truthfully and say ‘nothing’!  The medium would say ‘What again?’ and swiftly move on!

I was always embarrassed and felt lacking, as I was the only one who gave nothing. Or so it seemed to me. Maybe it was just that I was honest! Who knows.

I sat in the same circle for a year and never got anywhere.  Though I did learn things from others in the group.  But it took another medium’s input and a home circle to get me started on my pathway.

More on this subject to come.

It is important to remind you that I do have a regular  ’Healing List’ on my website: www.barbarabiggin.com

People from all over the World send names of those loved ones in need of healing, to me via my website email. These names are listed on my site and there are healers around the world who send out absent healing to them on a regular basis.  There have been very positive results in many cases.

Thoughts are living things and along with your prayers they are carried on the cosmos to where they are needed. It matters not if you are religious and if you are, it matters not where your religion takes you.

Suffice it to say that there is a higher source at work and healing is possible through prayer and kind healing thoughts. Even when a person’s time on this earth plane is coming to an end, healing can help ease the pain and the suffering of their passing.

Names remain on my list even when they pass over to the brighter side of life, as I believe we can still give the Spirit, or soul, some healing vibrations to help with their transition to the higher side.

Please keep sending in the names and those on the list will continue to receive our love and support every day.

My plea to Healers everywhere is to join in our events.  Believe that everything is possible.

Mediums and psychics have a vocabulary of their own. If you are not in the field, or don’t frequent Spiritualist churches, they may confuse you with some of their terms.

For instance: what do they mean when they talk about clairvoyance?

: what do they mean by ectoplasm

: what does a psychic artist do?

: what is a development circle?

For all these and more explanations, there is a glossary of ‘paranormal’ words and terms. It is right here on my blog. You only have to click the word ‘Glossary’  in the category list at the side of this post.

If there are other terms or words you would like to know more about. Or if you want any psychic or medium’s world explained, then please email me and I will share.

Whilst you are spending a lot of time developing your mediumship, you may notice quite a few changes in yourself.  This may be apparent to others or just to yourself at first.

Mainly you will tend to become a little calmer and more chilled out.  You have to learn to be patient, so this helps chill you.  Things don’t happen over night.

Development is not meant to make you more religious, but you may find you have a little more reverence when sitting in church or when you are talking about spirit. Spirit deserve your respect and reverence.

You will find yourself having great respect for your spirit guides. This is as it should be. But you will find your guides also have respect for you.  This mutual respect makes for a good working relationship. Trust comes into it of course.

You may also find you are starting to become to be a good listener. This is really important when you are talking to those who are in  mourning.  The bereaved often like to talk a lot after a reading.

What must not change is your ego. Sometimes, during development,  the ego can take over, NOT GOOD AT ALL!  The ego should be left behind. Becoming a medium does not make your a wonderful person. It is the way you use your gifts and how you treat people and help them, that make you wonderful.

Enjoy your development and enjoy the changes which come along.

As a medium, it is very important to give what you get. Say what you see. Tell what you hear.  Do not add, take away from, or embellish what spirit bring.

I tell you this because so many of us change in someway waht we are being given. it is not done purposely or to confuse, it is just the human way. We think it means this or that, so we say so. It can ruin wonderful evidence.

An example  for you came in a reading I did for a chap who was from abroad. Although I did not know where he was from when I first met him.

I kept seeing lots of sails. Lots and lots of them. I changed this (don’t ask me why) and asked him if he had a lot to do with boats or yachts.  He said no he didn’t. And it was nothing to do with his work either. Eventually he asked what I was seeing. I said well, just lots and lots of sails. He laughed and told me he was from Aukland New Zealand. The place is called the City of Sails!

So you see, I almost ruined what was really good proof from spirit. I am hopeless at geography and know nothing about NZ or most accents.  I did not even realise spirit were telling me about his home town. Lesson learned.

My most famous gaffe came when I was working in an open circle.  I kept seeing a magpie and decided to give what I thought was the symbolic reason for seeing a magpie.  So I went ahead and the recipient of my message hadn’t a clue what I meant. So, after the circle the man came to me and asked what I thought I had seen.  I told him it was a magpie. His laughing response was ‘ Oh I could have taken a magpie. My brother used to keep one in a cage’.  The message had been from his ‘dead’ brother! Big lesson learned.

I have tried ever since not to do it. But I know occasionally there maybe a lapse. It spoils it for the recipient of the message, for spirit, and fro the medium. We must keep our tendencies to ‘know better’ in check.

Mediums are generally very honest and do try to give what they get. But when you are receiving a message in dribs and drabs, words, pictures, feeling and thoughts, it is not an easy task to put the jig saw together for it to make sense to  a spirit’s loved one. We are not perfect.  Just humans with compassion.

The most important thing to remember when developing your psychic gifts, is to enjoy it all.  It is a very natural thing to do and, just like learning any other skill, it should be enjoyable.

There is often too much emphasis on getting it right straight away. In the beginning it is all experimental. You don’t know what you can do yet and neither do your spirit guides.

It is important, if you are mediumistic, to give time to getting to know your Spirit Guide. We all have a Door Keeper or Guardian Angel, but we also have other helpers and inspirers.

Even if you are not lucky enough to see your own guide, you still have one and need to build up a partnership with them.  The guide needs to learn what you understand by certain images and certain colours. You too need to know how your guide works. You need to let your guide know what you want and how you want it.

This all takes time and it ought to be a wonderful experience. Not stressful in any way.  As a good medium once said: Be gentle with yourself!

You need to gather a group of like minded friends to sit with. Choose those who can give time to dedicate at least one day per week.  It is no use hit and miss. You must sit regularly or it does not work.

It is important that all your sitters arrive for the circle early and that they are not under the influence of either drink or drugs.  This is very important as the mind can play tricks on you even when you are not under the influence and you need a clear mind when working with spirit, as always.

All your circle members should agree with you on the intent of the circle.  Is your intent to develop mediumship further, or are you going to sit for higher things?  The higher things being physical mediumship.  As I said in my earlier post, this can be gifts like trance, transfiguration or direct voice.

When you are all in agreement and you have laid down your rules about length of time sitting etc  You can sort out your seating arrangements.  Make sure you are all comfortable and that you are neither too hot nor too cold.  Where possible try not to sit too close together.  If you get too close to each other and your auras are overlapping you may feel very uncomfortable.

I am sure you know what I mean about the aura.  Think about how you feel if a stranger stands too close to you in a shop or else where, and you feel odd but cannot put your finger on it.  Well, that is when your aura may be overlapping the space of another.

You have your circle leader and you have your seats.  I find it is best to either sit in the dark or in a fairly dimly lit room.  Candle light or a small lamp with a red bulb will be ideal.  You may also want a CD player within your reach to play meditation music.

It is important to open your circle in prayer.  This is best done by the circle leader who should ask for spirits protection.  You may, if you prefer, have a communal prayer.  A prayer can also be used to ask spirit for advice and assistance within the circle.

Suggestions here are, to ask for your guides to come close and work with you.  To ask for a circle spirit guide to protect the circle.  Ask for advice on the ideal conditions for spirit to work with you.  These are just a few ideas but as you get more involved with developing your circle you may need to ask for more advice from them.

I trust you have enough details to think about here.  I will continue this theme in another post.  Enjoy!

There are lots of opportunities in and around Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, to see good mediums and psychics around this time of year. Not to mention the rest of the UK.

It doesn’t have to cost a lot, as there are many Spiritualist churches where mediums work for free, and all it costs the congregation is a free will offering to the collection plate. Unless it is a special event to raise funds for a particular project, in which case they often sell tickets at a modest price. In my experience this is never usually more than £3 or £4.

There are also a lot of private circles and groups which have been set up by mediums and psychics who are not linked to the churches. These too are usually modestly priced.

On my website www.BarbaraBiggin.com there is a link to all the Spiritualist Churches in the UK and links to others Worldwide, including Canada and the USA and Australia.  Take a look at the site, it is entirely free.

When you find a local church on the list, there will either be a link to their own website or at the very least a phone number of the secretary. You can find out who is speaking there and what date and time the event is. Give it a try and don’t forget to let me know about your experience of it.

By sharing your thoughts and comments here on this blog or on my website, you are helping others find their way around and pointing them in the direction of the good speakers rather than the others.

As ever, I thank you for your participation and look forward to posting your comments.

There are many times when I am feeling low or unhappy, that I find it comforting to feel the presence of a spirit loved one.

It may be just a brush against my cheek or a tickling of my hair, but it is enough to bring a smile to my face and a warmth in my heart.  I feel at peace, and I know which loved ones they are by the way they make themselves felt.

A particular loved one strokes my cheek and another caresses my brow.  It is not the same sensation as a human touch, more of a sense of it.  It is enough though, when you have learned to tune in to your sixth sense.

Too often we get bogged down with day to day trivia and become depressed by life’s problems.  We are not always aware that spirit have moved in close to comfort us.  The feelings we have often swamp us and make it impossible for others to get close. When you are truly sad, that is when they come the closest, but it can also be the time when we use our senses the least.

Persevere and you will be rewarded. When you feel most alone, that is when you are most guarded and guided. You can be confident that your Guardian Angel will be there to comfort and guide you.

When you feel a presence, ask who it is (in your head). You may not get an answer there and then, but you will find out who it is if you are patient. You can try a system of elimination, this often works well.

I am happy to give advice and I will keep coming back to this topic to help move you forward.

Spiritual Healing is a wonderful thing and if you have the gift it is awesome!

Although there are now rules within the EU,  about who can and who cannot give hands on spiritual healing, it does not count if you give it absently.

It used to be that if you went to a spiritualist church, you could take part in the healing service and give hands on healing yourself, if the spirit inspired you.  Sadly, those days are long gone. The EU rules have put paid to that.

Now people have to sit tests and practice with others, to get a certificate.  This certificate gives them the right to practice healing, even if they have no healing gift!  Stupid, in my humble opinion.

I have had wonderful healing from those who have no certificate.  I have also had the hands of those with the certificates placed on me, with no healing result whatsoever, because they lack the gift..

When a healer is truly gifted, you can feel the energy from them and their hands.  Those not gifted in this way give off nothing at all and should leave it alone.  But ego exists here.

To send absent healing you just need to have empathy, compassion,  and the desire to help.  You send out your love and your healing thoughts to the person intended to receive it.

A nice way to do this is to imagine the person who is in need.  Visualise them lying on a bed.  Picture a large blue cloud of healing energy and send it to the sick person.  Visualise the healing cloud enveloping the image of the person.  Concentrate your energy on them for a few minutes before saying a short prayer of thanks.

For more about healing, or if you would like a friend or loved one’s name put on my healing list, please email me.
