Mediumship and Beyond

I know a lot of you like to read and hear about ghosts and hauntings.  something about the subject seems to excite people.  Is it the unknown aspect or the fact it could be a dead person wandering around, that excites? 

There is a perfectly good explanation for ghosts.  Images trapped in time, after an untimely or violent death, is the valid one.  The world is not full of dead people haunting those who they are angry with.  The Spirit World is the home of  ’dead’  people when they move on from this existence.  They do not linger around to frighten and upset.

We all come here form our home in the Spirit World to learn lessons and evolve into a higher existence.  We go back home when our allotted time is up.  Why would we want to hang around haunting people.  Our only ties are with our loved ones and we do not want to alarm them. 

When spirits do come back to communicate, it is to uplift  and comfort those loved ones left behind, not to scare them.  Communicating with our loved ones helps to prove that there is life after death, and reassures those we have left behind, so that they know we all meet again.

Yes, sometimes spirits do make a noise in your home.  Sometimes they do move small things around.  Sometimes they stroke our hair or our face and let you smell their favourite sent.  This is comforting, not haunting.

It is though, a very interesting subject and we are all learning new things everyday.  who knows what we may find out in the future!

There is  a lot of rubbish talked about what mediums and psychics can and cannot do.  Lets put a few things straight shall we.  Mediums and psychics are NOT miracle workers.  However well developed they happen to be.  They are certainly not God.

I have heard lots of rubbish given out as messages from the church platform and from the hall stage.  Some of them make me really angry, and I have to learn to rise above it all.  But is does not stop me giving a word to the wise.

I heard about one medium who told a group of novices that their auras were colliding,  because they were sat next to the wrong people in the circle.  Nonsense!

A lady wrote to me and told me a medium had told her that her path was being closed down.  No one can close down your path.  Not you or anyone else.  It does not happen because a medium said so.  Even when you pass over to the higher side of life, your path is still open.  Your spirit lives on.

Ghosts are sometimes said to be naughty spirits.  Ghosts are actually images trapped in time.  Supposed hauntings are spirits of loved ones who have passed over and want to communicate with you.  They are not haunting,  just trying to be close.

Some mediums say they can call up famous spirits.  They cannot.  No particular spirit can be summoned to appear.  The only spirits who come through are the ones who want to communicate via a medium, for the purpose of helping a loved one.

Some mediums say their guide makes them appear drunk, or that the guide can maipulate their body whilst the medium gives clairvoyance.  This cannot happen.  Spirits are not physical.  They have no body.  They cannot make your body do things whch you do not want.  It is showmanship, that’s all.

Are you a little unsure what to expect of a medium who is demonstrating on a platform?  Well here are a few tips for you.

Mediums often like to give an air of mystery when they work. At least that is my experience of some platform speakers.  They make statements which, to the uninitiated, sound like they are from another world. They talk of vibrations and etherics, auras and ectoplasm, paranormal and auras. To mention but a few. My spooky glossary will help you with some.  Others, will be on my next list.

It also seems that what part of the world or indeed, what part of the country they are from, determines how mediums put their message across on the platform.  It differs quite a lot.

In the north of England, platform mediums usually start their message by saying ‘Can I come to you please’, being quite direct. They may point at a person or refer to the person in the red/blue coat, or the person at the back with specs on.  They may sometimes say that they think they are with that particular person, but may just be very close to the right person, but they are usually not far off.

In the south of England and in my experience, London,  platform mediums usually throw out the message to the whole audience, to begin with.  They will say they have a link with a certain spirit who is asking for his wife/daughter or that he gives a name. This person may have passed with heart trouble etc. There will be a few more items thrown out until they have narrowed the field down to one person.  After which the rest of the message will be directed at them.

You will find at most churches and halls, there will be a certain few people who believe that every message thrown out is for themselves. They are so intent on getting a message that they will speak up regardless, whereas there are always those few who want it so much, but are afraid to speak up.  It is such a shame the shy miss out.

When you go to such meetings, listen with intent at the items thrown out by the medium. If you feel sure that you can accept almost all the items, speak up. It is not always possible to place every item. The best piece of evidence is often the bit you have to go home and find out about later.

During the meetings, relax and send your love out to the Spirit World and enjoy the experience.   Don’t dwell on one person whom you want to contact, you may shut out another.  Enjoy the event and who knows where it may lead you.

If you wish to speak to the medium after the service or demonstration,  you will usually find them very approachable.  They like to answer questions and share their knowledge with you.

I firmly believe that all of us have the ability to develop our sixth sense and use our psychic ability. It takes time and effort, but is very rewarding when you have mastered a technique that suits you.  The most important thing here is dedication.  You cannot develop your sixth sense over night.  It does take time but is worth the effort.

Most of us are just aware of the five physical senses and are surprised to find there are others.  Being psychic is a natural gift which seems to have become stifled in most of us as we have ‘evolved’.  Learning to awaken this sense is a natural thing to do.

There are so many unexplained things in this world and they are there for us all to explore.  Why not.  There is plenty of information out there today about the psychic subject, and it is relatively easy to find a group of like mined people.

There are Spiritualist churches all over the world now and there are lots of opportunities to learn how to become psychically aware, and indeed, to practise your new found gift when you are ready for the public domain. You do not have to go to church or take on a new religion. You can go to development groups and classes almost anywhere now. There are also books which aid the seekers of psychic awareness.

Medium and spirit guide understand each other and make an ideal partnership. They use a unique form of shorthand between them.  A lot of those new to the paranormal do not understand this and are unsure how it works.  Therefore, forgive me for repeating the words below.

What sitters and seekers must realise when having readings with mediums, is that communication between guide and medium is a very personal one.  What a particular colour and symbol may mean to one guide medium partnership, will be totally different to another partnership.

The reason being is that they have worked and developed together, and know just how each others mind works.  The guide knows exactly just how to put the meassage across to the medium.

If my guide needs me to know that someone is being childlike, they show me a daisy.  It may be different for another medium.  The important thing to remember here is what it means to the medium who is relaying the communication.  It has been set up this way to get across the correct spirit message for you.

Spirit know when you have a reading arranged, even before you do.  They know how the medium works and set up things accordingly.  Don’t make the mistake of placing your own meaning on things. Listen to the mediums explanation.

A rose may have a memory for you, but if the medium is alerted to the colour, then the mediums meaning for that particular colour is also a message.  If you place your own, or another mediums, meaning on this, it will change the intended message.

The meanings given by your reader are the correct ones for that particular sitting.

We were asked to go to a factory where workers were concerned about a possible haunting.  The factory was a group a several buildings where a different part of the process happened in each one.

One particular building was well known amongst the work force for being a cold and eerie place.  They were convinced it was haunted.  We are talking big strong men here, not school girls!

There were tales of men seeing shapes appear in cold spots around the workshop.  One man had seen a figure appear in mist, but he could see right through the figure.  He could actually see what was at the other side of the figure, right through it.

Word got around and it became a workshop where men were reluctant to go.  Once someone was brave enough to talk about it others then admitted seeing and feeling things of an eerie nature.

I went along with  2 other mediumistic  friends.  We went around the empty workshop and felt the cold spots.  It was at one of these cold spots that we sat for a short time to tune into the spirit world.  We soon began to pick up information from spirits.

The main communicator was a man who brought with him a sandwich box containing banana sandwiches.  He proceeded to sit on an upturned box and eat his sandwiches.  He gave his name and said his son worked in the factory.  He also gave us lots of other information including dates and descriptions.

When the communication was ovr we went back to the bosses office.  A workman was just entering the office at the same time.  As we began to relate the information the the manager the workman stood with his mouth open.  Shocked to say the least.

His was one of the names the spirit communicator had given and the spirit turned out to be his dad.  It seemed the spirit used to work in the same workshop and would bring banana sandwiches every day for his lunch. He always sat on the same upturned box in the same area we had seen him.

It was the spirits need to contact his son and give him some advice about a current problem, that had led to the so called haunting.  Once the spirit had served his intended purpose, he was happy to move on and leave the factory in peace.

There was a man who lived over, and worked in, a bookshop in Lincolnshire.  He contacted me because he was having a problem in his store.

He explained that his cat, which once belonged to his now deceased mother,  seemed to be having some sort of fit but it seemed to always coincide with lots of books flying off the bookshelves.  He was freaked out by it and obviously, so was his cat.  He felt he was haunted by a bad spirit!

Having a browse around his bookstore convinced me that there was nothing sinister going on there.  Whatever was happening was of a kindly nature.  There was such a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

A prayer and a seance later and it was obvious what was going on!  The man’s mother, now on the higher side of life, communicated with us.  She said she was concerned that her son was being duped by a would be investor and wanted to warn him. 

She didn’t know how to get his attention and she knew he would not go to see a medium.  So, she took things into her own hands.  She would attract the attention of her beloved cat and this would make the cat go wild.  The cat knew she was there but could not see her. 

As the cat began to go wild, the mother would make books fly from the shelves, although she admitted that she didn’t realise at first that she could do this.  It amused her, but the main aim was to contact her son.

Now she  had managed to get her son in the same room as a medium and she could tell him what and whom to beware of.

Her mission over, the mother left our presence, leaving her love and affection.  We closed our seance and prayed to thank the spirit world for their help.

One of the first ‘hauntings’  I went to was some years ago. I went along, with a couple of other mediums, to a converted building, which was very old and had a lot of history. It was in the countryside.

The family who lived there were having a lot of problems with ‘spirits’ and wanted our help to find out why.

The man would go to bed at night and would place his clothes on his bedside chair.  When he awoke his clothes would often be on the floor in a pool of water.  No one had touched them and they began to feel the house was haunted. 

One night the man decided to leave his clothes on the landing.  When he awoke, all the linens out of the airing cupboard were on the floor in a pool of water.  This really convinced them they were haunted.

One day the man had to work away from home and he stayed in a hotel.  He undressed at night and put his clothes on the bedside chair.  When he awoke his clothes were in  a pile soaked with water.  He realised then that it was he who was haunted and not the house.

The couple came to the teaching circle I was helping to run and asked for our help.  We went along as a group and held a seance to communicate with the spirit world aand ask for their help.

The first communicator from the spirit world was the man’s mother.  She talked of the youngest child and the illness the child suffered.  She wanted to help.  She made it clear that it was her who had been trying to communicate with the man. 

The man was building up psychic energy and because he wasn’t using it  the energy was runnig amok ,and that is why the water appeared.

We discovered the child had a really bad form of cancer in one area and now another area was affected.  The childs grandmother urged the man to use his psychic energy as healing for his son.  She insisted it would help very much.

We, as a group, showed the man how to give healing to his son.  He practiced the helaing regualrly, every night.  Soon his water events ceased to be.

The most wonderful thing of all was that the child recovered from cancer and became well and happy.

Psychic energy, if ignored, can become a problem.  If you are developing, make sure you use up any surplus energy for healing, as that is a good positive action.  Just ask spirit to take the energy and use it to help those in need.

From time to time I get requests from people to help them with their haunting!

It may be that they feel their home is haunted, or even that a member of the family is haunted.  Sometimes they think they have a poltergeist.  They may think they have a ghost. 

It is then that they ask for help.  They may have put up with the situation for a long time , before plucking up the courage to do something about it.

These people often have had no dealings with mediums before and are often unaware of the psychic or spiritualists  world.  On other occasions there maybe someone in the home who  is developing psychic gifts.  It varies so much and I have to keep an open mind.

I usually make an appointment with them  and go along to the home to see what I can find out.  Figuring out what is actually taking place is as important as what I do about it.  It is not always straight forward.

There are often troubled people involved, and a caring and sympathetic attitude is really important.  It is important to find out what each member of the household feels about the situation and how it is affecting them personally. 

Once I have come to an understanding of the problem I will set about sorting it out, in order to leave the family in peace. 

This week I will write about  some of my experiences.

On Friday last, my friends and I went along to a Spiritualist church, to watch a medium demonstrate her gifts.  I promised to write about it today.

We went along to Bold Street SNU (Spiritualists National Union) church, which is in Sheffield, England.  There was very nearly a full house, she is obviously a popular medium.

The medium was Linda Shepherd.  A long time ago an old friend,  Pat, asked me to promise I would go and watch Linda demonstrate, if I got the opportunity.  My friend Pat is now on the higher side of life, but I am sure she would be watching too.

The evening  was billed as a special, so that meant Linda would have to demonstrate her mediumship for at least one hour.  During the time, which turned out to be nearer one and a half hours, Linda gave messages to many of the congregation.  Most of whom gave a lot of yeses, and not many nos.  The messages seemed mostly to be understood by the recipients.  Evidence is best judged by the receiver of the message.

The medium eventually came to our row and spoke to my friend John.  She gave him a lot of evidence, including his own name John.  She linked him with someone named  ’Barbara’, which he found very amusing, as she said he must listen to me.  He was amazed at the things she told him.

She then came to me and gave me the name of  Sue, who happened to be sat at the other side of me.  People then told her she had named all three of us.  The message she gave me was evidential, and I know she had my grandmother with her.

 There was only one ‘I don’t know’, from me.  This was something about a person close to me, having trouble at the moment with wisdom teeth.  I could not place this at all,  but she left it with me to think about.  So, my message was good. There was evidence of life after death for me.

Even better, when I got  home later and rang  my mother, she told me my sister was going to the hospital about her wisdom teeth, as they were causing a lot of pain.

So you see, sometimes you do not know everything a medium gives you, and it is worth remembering that, if you go for a reading.  Keep an open mind always.  It is for your own benefit, as well as the spirit loved ones who contact you.  They know what is going on even if you don’t!

The evening was a success for the medium and for us, the congregation.  I will go and see Linda work again, when she is back in my area.  My friends and I also enjoyed  being in the church and meeting up with old friends who greeted us very warmly.
