There are a few programmes on television which show mediums and psychics working an audience.  Some are American and others are English.  I personally have not seen any programmes from other countries.  Maybe that is because of language constraints.

The ones I have seen have a limited possibility of showing a full reading with none of it edited.  Therefore, what you get is an edited example of a reading, with more yeses than nos.  The producers of these programmes are not going to waste precious filming time on negative answers.

Unfortunately, this means the public do not get the correct impression of the medium or psychic’s work.  The only responses you usually see are positive ones.  This is not to knock the mediums but to be realistic about the genre.

There is bound to be a name or place ,or incident, that does not spring directly to the recipient’s mind.  This does not mean that the medium is wrong, but just that the receiver needs more time to think about it.  Some names are foremost in our minds, whilst others take a bit of a back seat and have to be thought about.

There is always the person who says no to everything, except the one person they are hoping to hear from.  They may not get this person but it does not stop them hoping.  Unfortunately this means they are turning a deaf ear to a lot of what the spirit is communicating through the medium.

Please remember that some of the televised mediums are very good and others are merely poor actors who give TV programmes a bad name.  Not to mention other mediums and psychics, who sadly get tarred with the same brush.

Remember that the programmes are heavily edited and then when you go to see a ‘live’ speaker, you will not expect everything to get a positive response.  Go with an open mind and expecting to have to ponder over some of the evidence when you get back home before either dismissing it or accepting it.

Most church mediums are giving their services free and therefore they have nothing to gain from pretence, unless they have an over inflated ego.  Most do not and are really very humble.  The humble ones, in my experience, are always far and above, the best mediums.

Terms You Should Know Before You Develop Your Psychic Ability

Although I am sure you are very keen to start, before you go any further, it may be useful to familiarise yourself with some of the terms used by mediums, psychics, and Spiritualists.

Aura:An aura is something we all have, and this is backed up by scientific evidence. It once was questionable, as Auras are usually invisible to the naked eye, but with the invention of Kirlian photography, which catches the aura on film, it is now proven. The aura is fact not fiction. The aura is made up of colours and surrounds the body in a sort of egg shape.

The average person does not see it, but a psychic can learn how to see it with practise. The colours shimmer, pulsate and change according to how the body and mind is reacting to outside influences. Some mediums can also read auras. They can tell you a lot about what is going on in and around your life, by studying your aura and its colours. Objects too have auras.

Circle or Psychic Circle:A circle is made when a group of people get together to practise their psychic and mediumistic skills. A group often work best when sitting in a circle, as each person can be seen by all, making communication between each other much easier. Anyone can attend an open circle at a Spiritualist church; it is a good place to learn more about psychics and mediumship and improve ones abilities.

Clairaudience (clear hearing): Some mediums have the gift of hearing voices or words within the head, that cannot be heard by the psychically undeveloped person. Again, it can be used by the medium when developed to a high degree, in order to pass information on to a sitter, from the spirit entities and loved ones on the higher side of life. It can be a bit like being a switchboard operator.

Clairsentience (clear sensing): This is another psychic gift used by mediums. It allows the medium to sense or feel things, including pain and emotion, which are communicated from loved ones in the spirit world.

Clairvoyance (clear seeing): The ability to see images, pictures, and even spirits with the third eye: a place in the centre of the brow that is invisible to the naked eye. When the third eye is well developed the medium can utilise it to help give proof of life after death.

Development Circle: In a development circle one learns how to develop psychic awareness. Such circles are usually held at a Spiritualist church, but can be held at a private home by an experienced medium. It is not advisable to attend another development circle whilst you are learning to develop from this book.

Spiritual tutors have defined their own ways of developing and sometimes they are incompatible with others, and this would only cause confusion. That said, it is okay to attend Spiritualist open circles and practise your skills, as there is no teaching happening when the circle is open to all. So, as long as you learn the rules of opening and closing, as explained later, the open circle can be a good experience.

Life After Death: When we human beings die, our body is no longer needed, hence the need for burial or cremation, but our spirit or soul moves on to the spirit world to carry on its intended existence. This process is often referred to as Transition, but in fact it is our life after this life. Once transition has taken place, the spirit carries on with its progression  and evolvement to a higher spiritual plane.

Medium:A medium, is someone who has developed their own psychic ability to such a degree that they have become aware of an ability to communicate with spirit entities and loved ones who have passed over to the sprit world. Mediumship is not an inherent gift, though it is possible to develop dormant skills. This book will teach you how.

Private Sitting: If a person wishes to receive a one-to-one message from a medium, they can book a private sitting. This can of course be free of charge, but most often there is a fee. We all have to live and finance our homes and offices, and mediums are no exception, so most have to charge. Not many people will or are able, to work for nothing.

At such a private sitting, you would expect to be given proof of life after death. This would involve being given evidence from a loved one of yours who has passed to the higher side of life. Information not previously known to the medium. This should prove that your loved ones were here on the earth plane and are still watching over you even now.

Psychic: A psychic is someone who uses senses that the average person is unaware of. We all have these psychic senses which are invisible, but which can be develop to a high degree with time and effort. Smell, taste, touch, sight, and hearing, are all physical senses of which we are all aware because we see evidence of them all the time, and indeed take them for granted. Unless you are a Spiritualist, or mix with those who use the psychic senses, you are probably unaware of them.

Psychometry: A sitter gives you a personal item to hold in order for you to give information about the past of the object and its owner. All things hold vibrations or data which has been left on them over time. Pure silk is the only item I know of that holds no vibrations, hence the reason Tarot readers keep their cards wrapped in it.

The reader holds the item and lets their psychic centres take in as much information as possible. It is a bit like being a sponge and soaking up the vibrations and then relating them to the sitter.

Psychic Art:A psychic artist is someone who has the gift of being able to see a spirit entity and draw them, usually at the same time as giving clairvoyance. Sometimes, a second medium is in attendance to add to the clairvoyance.

A famous Psychic Artist was the late Coral Polge, who was a well respected Spiritualist. Coral, did drawings which were said to be very accurate and the clairvoyant proof she added made the sitting more than interesting.

Sitter: A sitter is someone who ’sits’ with a medium or psychic, either in a circle or privately, in order to receive a ‘message’ or reading from them.

Spiritualist Closed Circle: A closed circle is just for those invited along, private. It is usually open only to church members.

Spiritualist Open Circle: An open circle is usually held at a Spiritualist Church. People sit in a circle with others who are hoping to communicate with someone in the spirit world. You may get a message from an experienced person or from a novice. You could also go to such a circle to practise your own newly developed psychic gifts.

Transition: Our ‘death’ is just a transitory phase from this life to the next, it is in fact a continuation of our existence. We have come from the spirit world, it is our home, and at our earthly death we return to the spirit world. Taking our transition is almost like passing through a door into another dimension. Only a thought away.

Vibrations: Are what he psychic or medium ‘reads’ when one has a sitting. Such vibrations can contain information about the sitter, and their life.

If you decide to have a private reading with a medium, here is what you can expect to happen.

You will probably both sit together in a quiet room and the medium will link in to the spirit world, and tell you about the communication from your loved ones.

Most mediums like to say a short prayer before asking for help and guidance from the spirit world, and again afterwards, to thank the spirit world for the communication.

The medium should not ask you any questions, other than “Do you understand this?”, “Can you place that?”, or similar phrases. You should not be asked any probing questions. If the medium does begin to question you, rather than giving you proof, I suggest you get up and leave. You could of course use the phrase favoured by many Spiritualists, ‘You tell me, you are the medium!’ That usually has the desired affect.

You should never give out information to someone who is giving you a reading. Nor should you give a reason for having the sitting when ringing up to make an appointment. You don’t even have to give your name, except maybe your first name, out of politeness.

At the sitting, yes and no should be the only words you need to use, apart from the occasional, ‘I don’t know what you mean’. Any genuine medium will certainly not want you to feed them information, as it will get in the way of the incoming message.

You should be as open minded as possible, relax and listen to the messgae.  If afterwards you have questions to ask then it should be alright to do so.  It is of course also ok to fill in the blanks for the medium if you like.  The medium will be happy to accept feedback.

Enjoy your sitting and I wish you lots of proof of life after life.

I have been asked ‘What is the significance of orange when giving a colour, ribbon or flower reading?’

I find, through years of experience, that colour is a very personal thing.  Most readers like to have their own specific meanings for each colour.  For instance, to one person the colour green might signify fresh fields, whereas to another it might mean peace or peacefulness.

To some blue is a healing colour but to others it is a calming colour but also can be viewed as cold or coldness.  As you can see it is something that you cannot predict unless you have had the same reader previously.

When I am reading colour I always have the same personal meanings for each colour, and I never change that.  Sometimes my meanings vary slightly, depending on what other colours they are chosen with. A bright green chosen with a bright yellow would be very different to a bright green chosen with a balck.

As for orange, and the question which led to this post, I find it donates a person who is a healer of some sort.  This can be a spiritual healer, although I would expect to find another colour with it in this case.  It could also be a doctor, nurse, carer or therapist.

Healing and caring cover quite a few professions and jobs.  It may be a carer who is caring out of love, or duty, not by choice of career.  Get your sitter to think out of the box here. But I am sure you get the gist of the subject.

If you are just beginning to read colour, you have a choice.  You can sit and look at the colours and decide how you feel about each one.  This should help you decide your meanings.  Once your psyche has taken on the meanings then your sitters will be inspired to choose the right colours for the message they need.

If you are having a colour reading from a psychic or medium then it is important for you to forget your own meanings for the time of your reading.  If you were led by your own meanings the reading would not work out properly. It is no use thinking that although your reader said blue meant healing, but you know it means new love.  It will not work.

Above all you need to remember that colour is personal and your meanings may well not match anothers.  The important thing here is: the reader’s meanings are always correct, not the sitter’s.

I have written a book on colour reading and hope to get it  published soon.

When you are developing your psychic gifts, it is possible that you may, on occasion, open up unawares, and in that case you must always close down straightaway. This is to protect yourself by deterring unwanted and uninvited spirit entities from calling upon you unexpectedly and inconveniently.

You, should be the person in control of you, at all times. If you start opening up all the time for unimportant reasons, you may attract the attentions of unwanted and unkind spirits.  This can cause havoc in your day to day life.  It can even make you ill if you do nothing about it.

Remember, all humans have to take their transition to the spirit world when their time on earth is over; after all, we are all spirits, but not all spirits are essentially nice or kind spirits. There are wonderful souls in the spirit world like Mother Theresa, but also there are lower souls, such as criminals, who are in the lower realms of the spirit world because they have a lot of atoning to do.

These lower souls are not allowed to mix with those more enlightened souls. If you make certain that you only work with spirits whom you have invited to join you, and ask spirit, in prayer, for only the highest and the best at all times, that is what you will have, and all will be well.

It is far better to have these ground rules from the start of your development so that you do not have these problems at all.  But, it is never too late to put your safety first.

Gordon Higginson was, for 23 years, the President of the Spiritualists National Union (SNU).  He earned his place in the history books of Spiritualism and is now on the higher side of life, no doubt working as hard as ever.  He was the best medium I ever saw, and I know hundreds of Spiritualists feel the same about him.

Gordon’s mother was the medium Fanny Higginson and he was her youngest child, and the only one to follow in her footsteps.Gordon was a superb medium and also a superb physical medium.  I have been privileged to have seen him demonstrate his mediumistic gifts many times.  I also witnessed his physical mediumship in the cabinet, and have benefited from his tutoring at Stansted Hall, the SNU college.

Gordon encouraged and guided many people towards becoming Spiritualist mediums and demonstrators. To this day his name is renowned amongst Spiritualist circles.

The evidence Gordon gave during his demonstrations was next to none I have ever seen.  He regularly gave full addresses and phone numbers along with names, as part of the evidence from spirit.

I have been very fortunate in receiving many spirit communications from him.  During one message he gave me during his physical week at Stansted Hall, there was mention of my husband’s name and the names of two of my sons.  He also gave me information about the city in which I lived, amongst other correct evidence.  I was amazed as ever.

To me, Gordon is a great example of what dedicated sitting and developing can achieve and he is an inspiration to us all.  If you ever saw Gordon and want to share your experience, please email me.

Gordon began sitting for spirit at the age of three but was only permitted to communicate with members of his mother’s circle when he was ten years old. At twelve years of age Gordon took his first church service and worked with other mediums in some of the largest halls in the country, becoming very well known.

We come here to the earth plane from our home in the spirit world to live an earthly life and to learn the lessons that will make us more enlightened spirits. Our spirit family can choose to come with us to help us.

We are born into this life at the same moment as we leave the spirit world. We have been allotted a certain life span and how we get from the beginning of our life to the end of our earthly life, is left to ourselves. We have free will. Though we are guided all the time, it our personal responsibility to live as good a life as we can within the set of circumstances into which we are born. We have to make the most of it.

When our time on earth is over we will go back to our spirit home and our loved ones in the spirit world. Our earthly loved ones will mourn our passing, and our spirit loved ones will rejoice at our homecoming.

The event, I believe, is like stepping through a door into another dimension. In the spirit realm we will have to atone for all our wrong doings, and we will be rewarded for all our good deeds. This is why we should take personal responsibility for all our earthly deeds. We cannot blame others for our shortcomings. Our experiences, and how we handled them, will determine our position in the spirit world and the progress we make.

It is really important to live our lives as if every day was our last, making every minute count. We should learn to treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves, in a decent respectful way. Remembering that we will be judged when we arrive back home in the spirit realms will help.

Unfortunately, so many people these days do not believe in an eternal existence and consequently, do not seem to care what sort of life they lead. If they realised the impact their earthly life was going to have on their eternal life, they might stop to think and try to change their lifestyle.

I believe that our spirit and earthly history will is wiped from our memory for the duration of our earthly existence, so that the knowledge of an earlier life does not interfere with the way we handle our lessons of this one. This I believe is probably the nature and reason for de ja vu! Past memories could somehow leak to the fore of your material mind on some occasions and make us think we have ‘been here before’. I am sure you will have experienced this during your lifetime.

An example of de ja vu is: when you are walking into the room of an old castle or church and the hairs stand up on the back of your neck making you go cold. Someone says words which set your mind racing but you feel you have lived it all before.

If we have had a prior existence and our mind has been virtually cleared of the history of that life, it may be possible, in theory, that something could trigger off a distant memory, but one that we cannot remember clearly enough to say if it really happened.

Occasions like this have happened to me quite a lot and maybe they have to you too. I would be keen for you to share such experiences with me via my web site.

Yes, there is a difference between working psychically and working with the spirit. Simple when you know what it is, but puzzling for those who do not.

Psychic awareness has to be developed in order to be able to communicate with spirits, though it is true to say that you can be psychic without being mediumistic.

To be a good medium, the psychic gift must be well developed and the ability to tune in to the spirit entities must be there. Not everyone has this gift. It takes years to develop properly and dedication is most important. It is not a game, nor indeed, entertainment. It is not a way to get rich quick, or in fact, get rich at all. If you wish to make big money then this is probably not the life for you.

A medium can communicate with loved ones who are in the spirit world, by using their special senses to pass on information to you from the loved one, to prove to you that they still exist and that there is life after death.

Everyone has psychic ability to some extent, but choosing to use it is an option and not compulsory. Once developed, it can be a far more useful and interesting gift

A psychic can give information that is gleaned from a person’s aura, or from within the vibrations around them. The details given in the message, will already be known to the sitter, because all their experiences in life are around them for a good psychic to read. A psychic does not connect to the spirit world, and therefore cannot receive messages from spirits.

You may not know at first if you are mediumistic or psychic, and this is not something that one gets to choose, as you are either mediumistic, or just plain psychic. Though some will say there is nothing plain about being psychic.

You will soon learn how to spot the difference between the two, but just remember, that you certainly have the psychic gift like all of us and if you are also mediumistic, it is a bonus which you will become aware of during your development. First though, concentrate on your psychic ability. I developed my own gift in the same way that I am suggesting you develop yours. I know it works and you will know it too.

In a previous post, I offered free colour readings to those of you who wrote to me here at this blog, sending me your choice of two colours.  This offer is still valid, so go on, pick your colours and let me have them asap before too many get involved and I become too busy.

Since I made this offer, I have become aware that interest in this subject has led some of you to track down your own ribbons, in order to learn to read them yourselves.  Here is my advice on collecting your ribbons and colours.

Start off with the colours of the Chakras, which are also the colours of the rainbow.  Red, Orange, Yellow, Green. Blue, Indigo and Violet.  You will need two shades of each, one pale one dark or bright.  Therefore, a total of 14 ribbons.

You can purchase them from your local wool shop or craft store.  You can also buy them from the stores that sell ribbons for using to dress hair.  You will need no more than half a metre of each shade.

Please be sure to buy plain coloured ribbon as patterned ribbon tends to distract from the colour and makes it hard to choose.  Try to make sure that they are all the same width etc

When you have your ribbons, gather them together in a bunch and fix them so that they will not fall apart.  You can knot them, pin them or sew them together.  It is entirely up to you how you do it, but it is best to keep them together.  This way you tend not to lose any when they change hands.

Now it is up to you to learn how to use them.  Remember, it is the colour you are going to read.  You are not using them as psychometry.  Give it a go and refer back to the other posts on this blog for information on how to go about it.

Good luck and above all, Enjoy!!!

Now, if you have been reading my blog on a regular basis you know how to set up and run your own circle. You may now be ready  to move your circle on a bit and need to know how.

You should be aware by now of how you and your other group members are progressing.  Do you feel that there are signs of any special gifts appearing.  Do any of you seem to be going into trance or do your faces seem to change a little?  Is any one of seeming to progress quicker than the rest?

With these questions in mind, and your answers, you can decide which way to take things.  You can try to put the focus on one group member for a couple of weeks and then, if nothing special seems to happen, try another member.  This way, if any of them is developing a particular gift you will soon find out.

The other thing you can try, either before or after the above, is to experiment with psychometry.  When you have tried psychometry for a couple of weeks you will know who it suits best.  You can then move on to try sand and then ribbons.  This way there is a good chance that you will find a good outlet for each of your group sitters.

There is always one method that suits one person more than the others.  It is great when they find their own thing!  When you have tried and tested the different focal points, colours, psychometry, flowers and sand you can then consider taking it in turns to be the focus of the group.

Ask your sitters if any of them feel inspired to talk during the circle.  Sometimes a sitter will start to develop an interest in philosophy and may feel inspired to talk during the circle.  Let them talk and see what happens.  You may be guided by that person’s guardian angel.

One of you will probably find you are inspired to say the opening and closing prayers.  It may be more than one of you.  In any case, when one of you is inspired in any knew direction they should be given the chance.

I will post more ideas for you in future blogs.  Good luck with your circle!
