Mediumship and Beyond

When a spiritualist medium tunes into a person and starts to communicate, it is often known as making a link. If you are not familiar with psychics or mediums it may seem odd, but it just means that there is a spirit who wishes to communicate with their loved one, here on this earthly plane, via the medium.

If the medium is working in a large room with several people there, or in a church with lots of people present, it can sometimes be difficult to place that link with the correct person.  Trial and error eventually lead the experienced medium to the right person for whom the link is intended.

We can all understand names that may belong to our loved ones, family or friends. We all know of people who passed to the spirit world with certain common ailments. We all have a lot in common, but the messages are not intended for all of us, just the one person. It is the medium’s job to find the correct person before given the full communication.

If a medium says there is a Fred or a George calling his name, lots of people in the room could think it was their particular Fred or George.  There may be several hands go up in response:  people are eager to link with their loved ones. If then the medium says this particular Freds or George passed over with a heart condition, the number of hands may be down to 2 or 3. They may then say that this particular man had been a policeman. This may be the clincher, the piece of the jigsaw puzzle that helps all the other pieces fit together.

The medium now knows who the message is for and the rest of the information coming in on that link can be given directly to that person.

Mediums with lots of experience at working with large groups of sitters usually know who their link is with and will not need to go through this procedure to whittle the numbers down. They will often speak directly to a person and say something like ‘I have a gentleman for you’ or ‘there is a lady with you’. They will then give the evidence that the spirit is bringing through, to prove to their loved one that there is life after death. The spirit is still watching over them and to prove it the communication should give present day information as well as the past.

The medium needs to give proof of the spirit, the time this spirit was on the earth plane, maybe to do with where they lived or worked etc. Details of events around the time of passing are often brought through.  There should also be details about the present day and how it is affecting the recipient of the message. They may want to reassure them and give them hope or peace.

Sometimes a little titbit may be given about a subject unknown to the person. When they speak to their family later it may all fit together. If not, they will eventually find out what it means. This for me is proof that we mediums are not mind readers. Would that we were! But, this is all done to prove that we , our spirits, have an everlasting life. There is no death of the human spirit!  It is not about new jobs and new dresses. Spirit do not go to all this trouble for trivial reasons.

So, please remember, when you next go to a spiritualist meeting, keep an open mind and only accept a message if it all fits you like a glove.

I am often asked how to begin developing spiritual gifts such as mediumship and healing. There is such a lot more interest in the subject than there used to be, and people want to be able to develop safely and in the best manner possible.

In my experience there is no replacement for meditation as a big part of development.  Firstly, learning to open up the psychic centres (see earlier posting) and then meditating to learn awareness of the spirit and  meeting your spiritual guide. You need to get to know your guide as early as possible but not every one does. Some never meet their guide. You can still work as a medium without having done so. I do not know why this is, but meditation still helps you develop your gifts.

It is possible to meditate to music or to sounds of nature, but I find guided meditation, with an aim and a goal, to be the best kind in the early stages. Guided meditations help keep you on track and can deter your ever wandering mind from straying. I have recorded my own meditations both for opening up and for guiding you on a spiritual journey.

It is impossible to stop your mind from working. If you have a tutor who tells you to stop your mind working then please find a new tutor. Your mind will carry on working even though you are meditating but it does not stop you from doing it. You will become accustomed to it all eventually and will learn to still your mind instead.

The ideal thing to do is follow the instructions on your guided journey and if you find your mind straying, just bring your awareness back to the voice on the tape and carry on your journey. It is so simple. Having said that, meditating did not come easy to me either, but I wouldn’t ’sit’ without it now.

I hope you will try meditating either by yourself, or with a few friends, or even in a circle. I know many of you will find it rewarding. If you are feeling unwell you can do a healing meditation. It may surprise you how well you feel afterwards. You can also use it to send absent healing thoughts out to loved ones and friends.

If you have read the previous two posts, you will now understand more about what to expect from a private consultation with a genuine medium.

Of note is the difference between the medium’s message and the cold readers efforts.  A medium has to give lots of unique evidence.  It has to be a collection of things which the sitter and their family can uniquely place with their spirit loved one.

Generalisations such as ‘a man who had a heart attack’ or ‘a woman who had trouble with her legs’, do not constitute, in themselves, proof of anything.  If you give unique proof and also include the man and woman, then it is good. All the information given has to come together to build up the jigsaw puzzle.

Cold readers cannot possibly match this unique evidence and you need to be aware of this if you decide to have a private reading.

Look upon a sitting as being told a story. A story that, when it all comes together,  only fits you, your family, and your friends as a whole. Some others may be able to take parts of the message, as with the above mentioned man and woman, but only you should be able to understand the full story.

We all know a John and a David, so too a Gill and a Carol. We all know of someone who passed with a heart attack or a lung disease.  But put these into your unique set of circumstances and it makes all the difference.

If the John passed with lung disease and you are told he also lived on a farm and was connected to Mary, who just happens to be your mother, then this is unique to you. These are not details which a cold reader would come up with, nor indeed a psychic reader.

What makes the medium’s message so special is that the information comes from spirits and the spirit world; from your loved ones who have crossed over. They lived in your unique life and therefore know all about your circumstances. This also makes them able to offer advice on your current problems.

If you are looking for proof of survival of the spirit, a medium is what you need. Choose with care.

On one of our trips to Canada, I was asked to give a private sitting for a lady. Here is the way this lady reviewed the reading I gave. This lady sent me a thankyou letter with the following review and told me I could place it on my websits. So here I share it with you.

A Canadian Lady writes: My Discernment

I did see a medium in the beginning of my journey…(actually two – but the first one was a fake and I recognized it immediately). The second medium I met was from England – and my meeting her was a story within itself so I’ll save that experience for a book.

But just to give you an example of the things this woman is blessed with…the knowing she has and can share with the bereaved, I will tell you about our meeting and what she told me about the death of my son and what was going on around him at the time. As Barbara & I sat down in the comfort of my girlfriend’s home, I immediately sensed that this lady was very kind, compassionate & grand motherly in nature. I sensed she was a good entity.

She saw a white car (Trevor had a white car)

She saw a ‘posh’ car (Trevor had a BMW)

She saw a little old lady with her arm around a young man. She looks to be about 70 (would have to be my grandmother).

She saw my grandmother’s place very neat (Grandma even lined up her silverware in the drawer…I’m talking the daily silverware all fanned out) She loved a place for everything and very neat.  She says she is taking care of Trevor.

She asked if another child in the family (a boy) has passed? (yes, my grandmother lost a grandson in 1994 at the age of 24 (my cousin – Johnny).

Trevor was talking about the pride in his car (Trevor wouldn’t stop working on it or talking about it, or washing it). Ximi and Trevor were always over, with Ximi inside the car, listening to music and watching her man work on the car.

Trevor is very annoyed (he’s talking now) about someone who is bothering me…he says “shut the door on their way out” (I just shut the door on someone close to me).

Trevor asked if I had a problem with the vacuum cleaner yesterday. (This was a huge hit…I don’t EVER vacuum – but I had to the day before when I spilt something all over…I kicked that damn machine all over the place before I finally gave up)…the medium said Trevor was laughing.

Barbara mentioned a beige cameo (I have one hanging over my bed)

Trevor was speaking…he had so many plans. He moved she thought; he appeared or was relaying homesickness (he moved to Edmonton 2 weeks before he died).

He was an old soul who lived each day to the fullest (anyone who knew him knows that is true). He has a ‘wicked sense of humour (Trevor’s trademark)

She asked does the 23 or 28th mean anything? He died on the 28th of June. She said a young lady was with him in the car (yes, his wife, Ximi)

She saw damage to his head (yes 3 skull fractures)

She said the young lady had glass on her face (yes, see accident photo’s)

She saw someone pulling her out.

She said they couldn’t get Trevor’s door open…was it a long two door car? (yes – and they couldn’t get him out as the flames were eating him).

Trevor was relaying that when they finally got him out of the car, the emergency crew put a thing around his neck. She said Trevor was watching all this but he was floating above it all, unaware of what was going on except that he was worried about the lady in the car. His spirit was out and watching, but he was still alive.

She saw them go to two different hospitals (yes, Trevor went to the burn hospital – Ximi went to another) Trevor was above the operating table, watching what was going on She said Trevor is saying he heard the nurse ask the doctor if they should get a ‘wrap’ for him. The doctor said no, there is no point. (That meant nothing to Barbara, it did to me – Trevor had 3rd degree burns to 80 percent of his body).

He had no concern for himself. He felt no pain, just worried about the lady. He was floating and unaware of what was going on. Not knowing he was dying.

He was worried/questioned something about a watch. (See Ximi’s reply below).

He said something about the glove box.(See Ximi’s reply below).

He said he saw a bunch of doctor’s and nurses putting fluid in him…and at this point he said to self, I wonder why?

He said I am putting something up for a memorial and not to bother – it is not important. And whatever is in that box that makes me cry – to stop it. (We think it might be Trevor’s ashes.  They are in a cedar box my brother in law made. I did take Trevor’s ashes to Cultus Lake and I had a nice cry on the bench with my son’s ashes and photo beside me).

The medium asked me if I have a dream catcher. Trevor was trying to get across that word. (I had no idea, but this was cleared up (See Ximi’s reply below).

Suddenly, the medium said, Oh, I feel heat…WAS THERE A FIRE? Until now, she did not mention the fire. THAT IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR – that is why Trevor was talking about the ‘burn wrap’.

The medium said Trevor was relying, “See mom, I’m in good hands” and Barbara saw Grandma again.” Grandma was keeping her arm around Trevor.

Trevor felt proud he packed so much in his short life (I knew that; two children, a marriage, college and on his way to his new career in Edmonton…plus he had the opportunity to visit Guatemala to ask his love’s dad if he could marry her…not to mention all the other things he’s done in his short life…)

He said he had been  homesick but he was happy he moved to Edmonton. He was so excited about his new life with his lady and new job.

He says he’s learning to look at things differently now he has passed over. Values are changing. The session came to a peaceful close. I never felt lighter or closer to God than that moment.

Ximi’s Response to the Reading

Thank you so much for sharing the discernment you received! Was I ever amazed and overwhelmed when I read your email, she was right on! Everything she said about the color of the car, the style, Trevor’s feelings, etc. was so accurate, it’s amazing. It has given me so much peace to know Trevor is being taken care of and, like he said, in ‘good hands’. I must admit that what you wrote about her saying that I was in the car, the glass on my face, going to different hospitals, and me being pulled out really left me speechless. I cried when I read about how Trevor’s soul was still around his body and worrying about me, God I love him so much and I knew he was the angel who made sure I was ok.

About the watch, I want to share this with you since Barbara told you about a watch and a glove box. I gave Trevor a watch for Christmas last year, and he absolutely loved it. A couple of months before the accident, he told me it was broken (one of the handles was completely loose). For his birthday, I wanted to exchange the watch for another one he liked, but he loved it so much he refused to exchange it and said he wanted to have it repaired. We kept meaning to do that, but never had the time. So a few days after we got to Edmonton, he drove to Superstore and found a watch repair store in there, so he dropped it off. Just days before the accident, we went to pick it up but the store was closed when we got there. We went again the next day, and got it back, he was so happy to have it back. Since it was a bit loose on his wrist, he took it off the night of the accident because he didn’t want it to fall off since the place we went to was very crowded.

So, I put it in the glove box….I got it back after I was released from the hospital and I went to the garage where the car (or what was left of it) was. I remembered it was in the glove box and I was sure glad when I found it there. Like you said the book says, there are no coincidences and with all that has happened I’ve truly grown to believe in that as well.

One of Trevor’s favourite movies (and his favorite book which he loved talking about) was Dream catcher (by Stephen King), we actually saw it at one of the theatres in Langley (Colossus) a couple of weeks after we got married and I saw it again when I went to the movies here a couple of weeks after I came back. The movie is about four friends who have been friends since childhood and who met a boy who they called Duddits. Duddits was special, he was gifted in many ways although he was brain damaged. The movie is called Dream catcher because Duddits made a dream catcher for his friends. It was a sort of net with beads that was shaped as several circles, and each circle represented one of his friends. He used it to keep evil spirits away from his friends. I don’t know if this has anything to do with what the medium might have seen, but it came to mind right away when I read that question. Trevor and I talked for weeks about that movie and he kept telling me about how it differed from the book, I loved listening to it and I kept asking him about it. So much, that I began reading the book but I never got to finish reading it.

You know, I had never told anybody about this because I never knew whether if it was just something in my head or if it was something that is really meant to comfort me. Whenever I’m alone in my room or in my house, I always have SUCH a strong feeling of a presence around me. You know, like when you’re in a house and you’re not alone, you can feel you’re not alone. Well, I’ve felt like that so many times lately! And the beautiful thing is that I’m not scared at all, and I’m not upset at all, on the contrary, whenever I experience that feeling I’m overwhelmed by so much peace and joy in my heart. I too feel much more peaceful after having read about your experience with this second medium, and I thank you so much for sharing it with me Mom.

Of note is the fact that this reading took over one hour. There was much much more information and proof which came through. The above is just a brief example which Trevor’s mum wanted to share. I personally got a great deal of pleasure from giving this reading and will never forget it.

I have often been asked how I receive the communications that I have from the spirit world.  The spirits use me as a sort of go between.  This is not unlike being a sort of translator between the spirit entity and the person for whom the sitting is being given.

I am clairvoyant, and therefore, I get most of my  messages in a sort of picture form. Spirits flash the image of a person, event, or building etc into my head and it is a bit like watching a TV inside my brow.  The images do not stay for long and I would expect that most mediums miss a lot of the infomation as it comes and goes so quickly, but whilst it lasts it is very clear.

I also hear voices.  This comes fleetingly as though someone is talking in my head, and again I have to be alert so that I do not miss it. Sometimes it comes as more of a thought into my head.

The other sense at work is clairsentience. This helps me pick up the feelings and emotions being given to me. I also feel the ’sense’ of pain, which is often to do with the spirits ailments or the pains felt around the time of passing over to the higher side of life.  It is not the same as enduring the pains, thankfully,  but just the sense of it. It might be that I fleetingly get a sense of pain in my chest, if the spirit passed with heart problems. The sense of pain in and around the lungs, or the urge to cough, has an obvious meaning too.

Ultimately, all the pictures, thoughts, words, and emotions, have to be put together as if it were a jigsaw puzzle.  This again is not easy but it has to be given in a way which the sitter will understand.  Sometimes, the spirit may use symbolic signs and this involves using my knowledge as it has to be a symbol which I understand, in order to give it to my sitter.

Maybe this explanation will help you understand why it is important that the sitter speaks as little as possible. Apart from yes and no, anything else will interfere with the medium’s flow of information and the collating of it. It a great partnership with the sitter, the medium, the spirit world, and last but not least, the medium’s spirit guide, who helps it all happen.

I often feel quite elated when really good information comes through. I also often feel bewildered whilst trying to keep up with the information.  It is a partnership which has taken 25 years of hard work. Worth every minute of it in my humble opinion.

In answer to your requests, I am writing about some readings I have given. I will keep the names of the sitters private by using pseudonyms.

This first one appeared to be an ordinary (not that any communication with spirit can ever be described as ordinary) reading from my perspective, but turned out to be a bit more special.

I always say to my sitters: ‘Just answer yes or no,’ or, ‘I don’t know what you mean,’ and ‘Do not feed me any information as this will only get in my way and spoil the reading.’ Once things get into my mind they get in the way of what is coming through; it is hard then to focus properly on what is coming through from the spirit world. Therefore, some good proof of survival can be ruined.

Michelle and I sat together and a man came through giving me evidence to relate to her. He gave a name and information to do with his passing. Several others came through, bringing their own personal information, but this man stayed with us throughout.

The communicators gave evidence about themselves and their loved ones, but also proceeded to tell Michelle about the happenings in her own life and to give her reassurances about the things troubling her. Michelle throughout stayed tight lipped and a little too straight faced. I was beginning to think that maybe she wasn’t happy with the reading, although it felt good to me and she gave mostly yeses.

As I brought the reading to a close I felt there was unfinished business. I heard myself unexpectedly asking Michelle if there was a question she wanted to ask me before I closed down. This is really unusual for me as I usually insist on no questions until I have finished the reading altogether.

Michelle told me that the man who had been with us the whole time was in fact her dad. She said everything I related about him was correct and she was happy with the sitting, but she still wanted to know something else.

As Michelle said this I became aware of an urn which seemed to contain ashes. I told her this and asked if her question had something to do with it. She said yes, she wanted to know if what she had done made her dad happy.

I then saw the ashes being sprinkled into the sea. I told Michelle this and asked her if that’s what they had done with them. She said yes, but still wanted proof her dad was happy with this. In my head I was asking Michelle’s dad to give her the proof she needed.

Immediately her dad showed me that as the ashes were scattered, Michelle and her family all threw ‘blue flowers’ into the water after them. This brought Michelle to tears. They were tears of joy. I explained that I had asked her dad to give proof that he was happy with the way Michelle and the family had scattered his remains. Him showing me the blue flowers had given her this full proof she needed.

Michelle said she felt so much better knowing that she had her dad’s approval. She left smiling broadly and was looking forward to relating the sitting to her family. This is what private readings are all about. Proving the survival of the spirit after physical death to the loved ones left behind.

This is a good book both easy to read and to understand. It is about scientific experiments which are designed to prove once and for all that the consciousness survives physical death.

The scientists seek the help of famous mediums to help conduct the experiments under strict laboratory conditions. John Edward and Suzane Northrup being two of the most well known of them in the USA.

The mediums give readings to numerous sitters, whose identity is kept secret until after the experiments are over. They are shocked, surprised, and often brought to tears by the revealations.

I found reading the transcripts of the sittings very interesting, but it did leave me feeling that British mediums seek stronger evidence to prove survival than American mediums and that they are harder on themselves, often seeking perfection from their readings.

The book is at a special price on Amazon at the moment, so a good time to purchase it if you are interested in this subject.

The word Poltergeist means “noisy spirit.” A poltergeist is neither a spirit nor a ghost according to paranormal and parapsychology experts. Described as an invisible force and entity, poltergeists have been a topic of debate within paranormal circles for some considerable time.

Poltergeists are not the same as ghosts. Ghosts are usually thought to be the spirits of dead people, who are trapped in time and are often the tormented spirits of murder victims or victims of other violent and unexpected deaths. Poltergeists on the other hand are different from the usual haunting ghost. They seem to be able to interact with the material world and sometimes with violence.

During poltergeist activity stones can be thrown inside the house and windows can be broken by objects being flung around by unseen energy. Objects can float through the air, water and other liquids can pour from walls and ceilings. The subjects of this activity can appear to be bitten or have scratch marks on their bodies.

Depending on the power of a poltergeist, its activity can range from cold air, strange sounds, and nasty smells to floating objects and sometimes includes physical abuse.

Because of the progress made by paranormal science and parapsychology there are new ideas about poltergeists. They now believe that poltergeist activity is not paranormal entities but human beings.

Theories on the poltergeist and human connection, the force usually blamed on poltergeists, are emotional and mental triggers in humans. This is because poltergeist activity usually occurs in places which have seen much violence and suffering or around persons who are experiencing deep emotional problems. Or at times of puberty, when hormones cause changes within a teenager and leave them troubled and repressed.

Intense emotion like anger and tension, from a human being, can cause inexplicable events such as floating objects, strange noises, and other strange phenomena: water too often features in poltergeist activity. The human is usually oblivious to the fact they may be causing the problem because the subconscious mind has finally found a way to release their repressed emotion.

Whether poltergeists are paranormal entities or psychic forces, they are one of the most popular paranormal beings and often talked about.

My personal belief is that poltergeists are psychic energy coming from a troubled individual, usually a pubescent and troubled teenager. This energy runs amok causing havok. There is nothing to suggest it is a spirit nor, indeed, a ghost. But what do you think?

In the past couple of posts I have referred to rescue mediums I thought you might like to know more about this subject.

RESCUE CIRCLES are sometimes formed by Spiritualists in order to help the dead by freeing them from their earthbound state. The idea being that earthbound spirits are unable to go to the light and progress to the spirit world without the help of us mortals.

The souls are understood to be trapped on the material plane. Supposedly, they do not realise they are dead. The sitters in the circle, mediums and their circle members, offer prayers and guide the spirit through the light on their way to a higher existence.

As a medium with many years experience, I have never come across a spirit who has needed my humble help to go to the light, and thus to their intended place in the spirit world. I am not afraid to admit it either.

I know I am not the only medium who feels this way. Surely it is the job of the deceased’s guardian angel, or spirit guide, to guide them back to the home from whence they once came.

Yes, I know that when a person has a violent or tragic passing, they will need time to get used to the fact they have passed. Whereas a person who has been ill for a while will be a little more prepared spiritually. But, that still doesn’t mean that their guide or guardian angel cannot lead them to the light.

I personally am not so arrogant as to believe I can do what spirits cannot.

The Ghost Whisperer is an American TV series which features on Sky’s Living TV channel. It stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon, aka the ghost whisperer and David Conrad aka Jim Clancy, Melinda’s hubby. It is now running it’s 4th series.

Melinda is a young woman who is newly wed to Jim. She has the ability to communicate with ‘earthbound’ spirits.

I personally see her as what is known in the psychic field as a ‘rescue medium’. She helps lost souls sort out the unfinished work they have here on earth. This usually involves Melinda contacting the friends or family of the spirit.

When the problems are all sorted Melinda helps the lost soul to go to the light, thus ending their turmoil. Melinda has known of her gift since she was a little girl and her Grandmother also had the gift.

I find most of the stories very interesting. She does a different job, as a medium, than the one I do but there are commonalities.
