When a psychic or medium tunes into a person and starts to give a message, it is often known as making a link.

When the psychic is working in a large room with several people, or a church with lots of people, it can sometimes be difficult to place that link with the correct person.  Trial and error eventually lead the experienced medium to a preferred method.

We can all accept names that may belong to loved ones, family or friends. We all know of people who passed to the spirit world with certain ailments. We all have a lot in common.

If a medium says there is a Bill calling his name, lots of people in the room could think it was their particular Bill.  There may be 5 or 6 hands go up in response.  If then the medium says this particular Bill passed over through a heart condition, the number of hands may be down to 2 or 3. They may then say that this particular Bill was a postman. This may be the clincher, the piece of the jigsaw puzzle that helps all the other pieces fit together.

The medium now knows who the message is for and the rest of the information coming in on that link can be given directly to that person.

Mediums with lots of experience at working with large groups of sitters usually know who their link is with and will not need to go through this procedure to whittle the numbers down.

There are now many evenings of clairvoyance in public halls, at theatres, and even in pubs and clubs. There are quite a few of these which are held for charitable reasons, to raise money for worthy causes. Most spiritual mediums give their time free of charge at such events.

These are great places to go and see just what goes on and see for yourself that there is nothing spooky or scary about mediums at all. Well, I can speak for some!

There is sometimes more than one medium in attendance and you may find that one of them has a good night, but the other doesn’t. They may well both be good, but sometimes material conditions are not always conducive to mediumship.

You must remember that such events are somewhat of an experiment as it is impossible for mediums to summon up spirits at will. The time of the old style mediums who used to name drop and imply they could call up anyone, famous or otherwise, are, hopefully, in the past.

We must be honest if we are to find the truth.

On Saturday, I went along with a friend to a local church, having a very animated conversation along the journey. We talked about family and, in particular, about family members who lived away.

There were two speakers (mediums) on Saturday and neither seemed to be very experienced at their craft, but obviously tried their best. Part of what made it difficult for them was the fact that some who received messages were unwilling to let it be, and continued to try and take the messages that followed too.

It can be hard for a medium to break a link, but it is a must when there is a large room with a few people in who are “message grabbers.”  Unfortunately, there are a lot of message grabbers at church meetings, along with those who are desperate to hear from loved ones.

That said, one of the speakers gave me a message which was full of information about the subjects we had talked about during our journey there.  Names and places were mentioned, but also dates which linked with them. This is a good example of a psychic message rather than a mediumistic one. Information seemed to be gleaned from around our auras rather than from the spirit world.

There are good, very good, poor, and very bad demonstrators of mediumship around.  You will find them on platforms, both in churches and in public halls or rooms. Some are free to listen to; for others there is a door charge, or ticket only entry.

There seems to be little correlation between the cost of seeing a medium and their ability to give proof of their gifts.  I suggest you try a few, but don’t pay more than you can afford.

Spiritualist churches usually have services at which a collection plate is passed around for your free will offering.  These are often at the weekend, with a divine service on Sundays. What is placed on the collection plate is entirely up to the individual.

There are also occasions when the churches have specials, for which they charge a small entrance fee.  These usually consist of a special evening of clairvoyance, or possibly a demonstration of trance or maybe transfiguration. Buying tickets beforehand is the best way to get in to see these specials.

You can arrange a private reading at a church and donate a fee to the church, not to the medium you have your sitting with.  Alternatively, you can visit a medium who has been recommended to you by someone you trust.  You may decide to try both.

Whichever you decide to do, I am keen to hear your comments and feedback on any of the subjects discussed in my blog.  We are all seeking the truth.

It is not difficult to find a way to develop your sixth sense.  There are numerous avenues open to you. You could go it alone or join a group.

You do not have to take up Spiritualism to develop your psychic gifts either.  Religious people are not the only ones granted these extra senses.  Your religious beliefs remain your own.

At home, either by yourself or with a small group of like minded people, is a good place to begin.  I have devised my own method of development and if you would like to find out more about it, email me through my web site or add a comment on this page and I will get back to you.

Meditation is a good place to start. Learning to relax helps both the physical body and also to quieten the mind.  My method uses meditation, but you do not have to be used to meditation in order to learn how to attune yourself.

Remember, we are all psychic but not all of us are mediums.  Anyone can work on developing their psychic ablity, but it does not mean that you will become mediumistic. More on this subject in future posts.

I have felt my Grandmother close to me for most of my life since she passed over. I feel that she has guided me and inspired me in my daily life, and, most certainly, during my time of developing my gifts.

I used to go to Spiritualist churches all over the country, with the knowledge that no one knew me and therefore, whatever I was told in messages, they could not possibly have known about before. I witnessed some wonderful psychic phenomena over the years and saw some really awe inspiring mediums at work.

My interest and intrigue finally got the better of me and I decided to join a development class. From then onwards, there was no stopping me, because however busy I was, or however difficult things were, I pursued my vocation with all my heart and soul.

The truth really is out there!

Although my maternal Grandmother was the person who originally got me interested in all things paranormal, or other worldly, it was only after her untimely death that I really began my search.

I was 21, married, and very busy with two beautiful babies to bring up, when she suddenly died after a bout of flu.  I was devastated. We had been so close and now she was gone. Thus I began my search to prove to myself that she was still around.

She always believed in a life eternal, and I never questioned her belief.  When she was gone, I had to find out for myself. It took a long time and a lot of searching to find my answers. Starting to develop my own sixth sense was a natural progression of my personal life, and I was determined to find a link with my Grandmother.

Clairsentience is often the very first sign that the sixth sense is developing. It is the gift of sensing, smelling, and feeling emotions. Sometimes it can even be the sense of the pain which a spirit felt during their earthly life.

Clairsentience is the sense of smell which does not come through the physical nose. It is an acute awareness of a smell, that those without the gift seem to be unaware of. It may be the scent that a spirit used when on the earth plane, and therefore a good piece of proof for a seeker.  If the medium told the sitter that they were aware of a lady smelling of ‘Devon Violets’, for example, this may be how the sitter remembers this spirit. This may be the evidence he or she is looking for.

Emotions experienced by the spirit, especially just prior to their physical passing, can sometimes be relayed by a medium who uses this gift to the fullest. There may be laughter and joy, as well as sadness. Feeling and sensing what the spirit wants to relay is a medium’s job.

When a medium uses this gift it brings so much more to a message. A combination of clairaudience, clairsentience, and clairvoyance is what the developer of the sixth sense should aspire to.

A fully developed sixth sense brings this gift within your capabilities. Clairaudience is the ability to hear clearer, or to hear things that those without the developed gift cannot hear.

Clairaudience occurs when the sixth sense is developed to such a degree that allows thoughts and words to be heard within the head. This is subjective, as opposed to the objective sounds that the average human ear picks up from outside the mind.

The thoughts and sounds seem to just be there and the receiver suddenly appears to know the information as though it were imprinted within the head. A clairaudient may say to you ‘I hear a man saying,’ but they do not hear it objectively. A Spirit does not have a physical body with which to make audible sounds.

A clairaudient medium will gather all the information which comes into their head and relay the message to the sitter.  Lots of information can be gleaned in this manner and it is popular with sitters who sometimes think that the medium is actually listening to the voice of their loved one. This is not so, but the message is still in fact given to the medium by their loves one.

Clairaudience is not used for fortune telling. Remember, the future is not a medium’s responsibility: the past and the present are.

The words used by mediums may sometimes seem odd to those who are not into psychic speak. Here I have given a simple explanation of a few common terms.

A Sitter – Someone who sits with a medium to receive a psychic message

A Medium – A person used as a mediator between the sitter and the afterlife.

A Psychic –  Someone who gives information which they glean from a sitter or object by using the sixth sense.

Clairvoyance - The gift of being able to see using the sixth sense

Clairaudience -  The gift of being able to hear using the sixth sense

Clairsentience - The gift of being able to feel and smell using the sixth sense

Table Tapping -  A form of communication which uses the sitters’ psychic energy to rap/tap, or move a table.  Used quite a lot by the Victorians and people within the circle of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Still used by some spiritualists. I have never found it useful personally, as the messages and tappings can be pre-empted by the sitters’ thoughts.

If you are in any doubt about any of the terms I used, please contact me. I am always happy to help.
